Use of banked points as part of resale

I am thinking of buying resale and have done lots of research. One contract I am considering has 2011 banked points with Feb. UY. I already own DVC and have a Dec. UY with a vacation planned for this Dec. If I purchased this new contract, would I be able to swap my newly bought points for my Dec. reservation without canceling and rebooking, to get use of out these points that expire earlier? My contracts would be at 2 different resorts.

If not, are my only options to rent at a reduced rate or transfer points into RCI?

Thanks.

If the points for the new contract were not the same as the points for the stay and you booked your stay at 7-11 months out, you would not be able to swap them out and use the new set of points without cancelling and rebooking. That would defeat the 7-11 month priority reservation time frame.

I booked about 6 and a half months out, so I did not use my points for my home resort. Would that make a difference?

In that case you should be able to swap points, though some MS agents are more familiar with the process than others. Why not call MS and confirm that you can do it? Hope it all works out

The only piece is that with two different UY, it's two different memberships which mean the points have to be transferred and banked points can't be transferred.

I know that MS will sometimes make exceptions to the one transfer rule for owners who are transferring between their own contracts but never heard of banked points being allowed to transfer memberships.

As mentioned, a call to MS might be helpful.

Thanks everyone. I did call MS, and the cast member had no idea. Sounds like it will be more hassle than it's worth. If I go with this contract, I might just rent the points for a low price. Thanks again.

I think that might be the best choice. Points can be pretty easy to rent, especially if they are priced right. I managed to rent 130 points in two days, since I was willing to take a low $ per point. The other good thing is that you can use some of that $ to offset your cost for the purchase of the DVC. Just something to think about...

We just recently got banked points from a resale. I wondered about reallocating some points for an existing reservation but that would have been circumventing the 11 month booking advantage.

Turns out that we had to cancel the 1st 3 nights of that reservation and book at another resort, so we were able to move those 2012 points back into my account and use the banked 2011 points after all.

I will agree with other replies that it would be much easier for you to do what you want to do with those banked points if all your points were the same UY, deeded exactly the same way. I know lots of people report that they have multiple UYs and have no problem managing them but........the thought of that just makes my head hurt. :headache:

Just be prepared...if you're planning on renting out the points, you are already inside the 7 month window for what is possibly the busiest time of year for DVC. Even with the points available (and even if they are deeply discounted), you may still be stuck with them if there is no availabilty.

Good Luck!
