Use first FP for 7DMT?

We will be at MK next May, the week before Memorial Day. I am planning to use my first FP of the day for the 7DMT. However, if we get there at rope drop and go straight to the ride, will we need to use a FP? Also, if I do book the FP for 7DMT and someone in my party wimps out, will that mess up anything for my group's 2nd and 3rd FPs?

You book 3 FPs at a time, so missing the first one should have no bearing on FPs 2 and 3.

If you go to the ride right at rope drop and have FPs for that time, you can pick either the FP or standby line. We've done that for Splash - the standby was short, so we got in that line, even though we had FPs for it at that time. Then, we rode it again right afterwards, using the FPs.

Basically, get FPs for the ride, just in case the line is really long right after rope drop. We had that happen this year, but that was also in mid-June.

Availability of 7DMT FPs is still limited, so you might not even be able to get one for first thing. Regardless, it is a good plan to have it. If you luck out and get a short standby line, you can always ride it again with the FP, or you can change the FP to something else when you're at the park.

Guests never NEED to use a FP for any ride. You can always use the standby line. Guests always have that choice. (bear with me, I'm not trying to be rude.)

Second, none of us can say exactly what the standby wait will be when you arrive at the queue. I've been to WDW for many a major holiday, and many factors are at play. Bad weather = shorter lines. Also, lots of time we TRY to hit RD, but don't quite make it for a host of reasons.

It is entirely a personal choice to decide how long of a wait = an acceptable wait. Every day at least one group is first to ride. None of us can say who quickly the wait will go from 0 to one that is unacceptable to your family.

If you book 7D - for ANY member of your party- and they don't end up using their FP - for any reason- then you are able to rebook it for something else, SO LONG AS- there are still FP available for other attractions.

You cannot book your 4th FP, until you personally have used your first 3FP. that is the impact. Your #2 and #3 FP are safe to use.

From here, none of us can say what kind of FP will be available to your family if they don't use the 7D FP. This is important! But if they don't use it, they are entitled to re-book their FP entitlement and use it on a different ride.

What we can say is the earlier (in the day) you rebook that FP, the better. If part of your party uses a 9am 7D FP, and part of your group doesn't- then you have two options. Option A would be to swap bands and let the willing folks use the FP. (then everyone is equally able to get their 4th FP at the same time.) Option B, is for the non riders to get an alternate FP and USE it before everyone has used up their first 3 FP. That might be simple or it could be a pain. Option C is that the ones who don't use their first 3 FP opt out of getting their 4th FP. (probably not the best option). Option D, everyone enters the queue, scans their bands - but exits AFTER the second scan. (FP are scanned twice, and considered used once a guest passes the 2nd scan.)

I will also say, 7D is truly a kiddie coaster. If part of your group doesn't use their 7D FP, they might find limited options for picking a different attraction. Then again, anyone opting out of 7D probably doesn't want Splash Mountain anyhow.

There's a good chance that my husband won't get on it. So if my daughter and I ride without him, once his FP expires will the 3 of us be back on track to use FP2 & 3 together?

Yes, although if your daughter is old enough to ride alone, give her his band and send her through again ;)

It wouldn't mess up the rest of your fast passes, but there are other options:
If someone in your party decides not to ride (person A), then someone else in your party (like person B or Person C) and take Person A's magic band and ride again with Person A's FP, as long as he (or she) doesn't mind riding alone, or with the potential of having a stranger sitting next to him.

Or you could use your MDE app on your smart phone and change Person A's 7D fast pass to something else.

Ah, good tip! I would not have thought of that.

It won't mess up FP 2 and 3, but it will mess up your ability to get FP #4. With so many rides to FP at MK, you'd do well to use his FP one way or another, so you can ALL get FP #4.

As another poster suggested, either you or your daughter could put on his band and use his FP. It would only take about 10minutes.

Still one more option would be for him to go through the queue with you, and just opt out (chicken exit) just before boarding.

He could also rebook his FP for something else (I'd pick something very close in time and location). If you pick this option, it won't be a tier one attraction, but you can probably nab a FP for something close. Some likely options, close to 7D- where you could WATCH daughter on the attraction: Dumbo, Meet Ariel, Mad Tea Party. You can also come pretty close to watching her the whole time (from a little distance)on Goofy's Barnstormer (very similar ride to 7D, minus the theming).

So if his unused FP1 expires, then he uses FP2 & 3 with us as scheduled, he'll still have trouble getting FP4?

No, he shouldn't have a problem. We had a few instances where my parents skipped FP rides the rest of us went on, we never had a problem getting a 4th FP at a kiosk. If you do, there are CMs at the kiosks to assist.

As for your original question, if you go straight to 7DMT at rope drop, I'm guessing you'll have 20 minute standby wait. On our trip we rode standby at rope drop and saved 7DMT FP for later in the day. But I suppose if you use 7DMT FP at rope drop, there won't be very many people returning with FP then, you should get on pretty quick.
