Use borrowed points if get wait list request?

I have a reservation at SS for a weekend in the Fall. I know it is a long shot but I want to wait list BWV. However I would be short a few points in my current year for BWV. Do I have to borrow the points now just to wait list or can I arrange to have them automatically borrowed if the wait list comes through?

The wait list can be set to automatically borrow points if necessary to make the reservation.

And, you cannot borrow points until you are making a reservation that will use them.

The online waitlist process will ask you if it's OK to borrow points. Obviously, you say yes if that is what you want. (If you need to borrow and don't say yes and the waitlist works, your request will be cancelled and you won't get the reservation). The online waitlist process also allows you to cancel an existing reservation if your request becomes available.

If MS sets up the waitlist for you, be sure to mention that it's OK to borrow if the waitlist works.
