Use Airline Check-in at Resort even without Magic Express

We had a rental car on our last visit but used the airline check-in at POR to check our baggage and to print out our boarding passes before going to the airport. This was very convenient. I believe the hours for the airline check-in desk were from 5am to 1pm. This service is not available for all airlines. Luggage should be dropped off at least 3 hours prior to the flight departure. :cool1:

I just posted this very question. Thanks for the information. Do you need to make prior arrangements for this or just go to the resort airline check in desk?

As a follow-up, could the OP arrange to take ME to have luggage delivered, and then take the Towncar, without checked baggage? Or would they have to check into the ME desk at MCO anyway?
No. Luggage delivery is a perk of Magical Express, not the purpose of the service - the purpose is to transport PEOPLE directly from the airport to their respective Disney resorts without giving them (us) the opportunity to spend money offsite :)
When you check in at the DME counter, you will get a voucher. When you board your assigned bus, the driver will scan your voucher. No voucher scanned, no luggage transported from airport.

You DO need to make prior arrangements: For the return flight, reserve as far in advance as possible but at least a day; if passengers don't reserve in advance, not enough bus space is scheduled and somebody might not get on their assigned bus and therefore end up missing their flight.
For taking DME from the airport to Disney World, yes, you absolutely MUST make reservations, at least ten days in advance.

I believe rsschneck was talking about the airline checkin desk at the resorts.

For that, you do not need to make reservations. Just bring your luggage down to the desk after you check out of your resort.

Thanks, Ed - I misread the question. You're (naturally :)) absolutely right. DME needs to know in advance about the people it's transporting, not about the luggage.

Thanks for your information on this thread and the one I posted! This will work out GREAT!!!!

One other observation while I was at POR. The luggage checked at the airline desk was loaded in large "baskets". The baskets were rolled onto a truck which transported the luggage to the airport. This was checked luggage for users and non-users of the Magical Express.

... which makes PERFECT sense because using Resort Airline Check-In and riding the DME bus are two COMPLETELY SEPARATE, UNRELATED things.

Boy, I wish I knew about this a couple of weeks ago. It was not a pretty sight seeing my husband loading our luggage (mine and 2 teenage DDs) into the trunk of our rental car.

Was this inbound to Mco to go to resort by rental car? If so Disney will not transfer your bags to resort if you don't get on the DME bus.

But when leaving resort for home you can use the (airline check-in service) if your on a particapating airline to take your bags and you can go to airport anyway you want or use the DME bus again.

If not a particapating airline you need to take your own bags to the DME bus yourself or to your rental car.

EXACTLY, so hopefully someone riding the DME bus won't get worried when they don't see their checked luggage make it onto the bus.
