We are renting a car when we fly into Las Vegas and driving to Anaheim in California for the week. Then driving back to LV to fly out of there. Anything I need to know about rental cars in the US for Canadians?? Pretty broad question I know, but not sure if there is SOMETHING I need to know :lmao:

We do have unlimited mileage on the car. And we booked through Hotels.ca and got their insurance on the vehicle (although we did call our local insurance for our own cars and they said we could be covered through them as well...not sure how that all works though :confused3 )

Thoughts/Advice/Info??

Thanks!!!

Sounds like you've got the car all sorted including insurance.

The only things I can think of are:

GPS - you have one? If not, it's probably cheaper for you to buy one down there then rent one.

Gas - The gas stations in some states require you to put in your ZIP code if you're paying at the pump. If the pump does ask for it, try 0000 or 9999, those work at some stations. If it won't take those, then you have to go inside to pay

Other then that, I think you're good to go. Have a fantastic trip! :wizard:

I have heard about a trick to this... but now I can't remember :rotfl:

I must google.... lol

I think we are most worried about the insurance... it's always a scary thought that something might happen!

Call your insurance company to ask what you need to get for coverage. My ins company advises to buy liability. Perhaps there is a credit card that would have coverage?

Car seats if you have kids ... bring them with you. You will save lots of money!

GPS ... buying one is cheaper than renting. This is an excellent suggestion.

The insurance.....I just called my insuranec company about renting a car for my upcoming trip to FL. (we have decided not too...just easier).

With MY company, and I know they can vary, I did NOT need insurance of any kind on the rental I was getting. Because my car was going to be parked at either a parking lot (park and fly) or at my home, then what was basically happening (to make it simple), was the insurance was coming with me, off my car, and onto the rental for the period in which I was using it. Same liability, deductables....all that. If you were to have an accident, and they needed to replace the car instead of repairing it, you would get the cost of what you would have at home...in Canadian dollars, then converted. So if you rent expensive, that might hurt.....so just don't get into an accident;) BUT my insurance company, many times, reassured me, that I did NOT need insurance or need to pay the extra expense. Definitely call your insurance company maybe again to double check. It's a huge cost.

Have a great trip!!!!
