OK, whilst Google mapping tonight DH and I have thought... "mmm Costco..." We weren't going to renew our local membership. Question is, for those who have been into US Costco was it that great that it was well worth it. That different to Australian Costcos, with lots of bargains to be found... IYKWIM.

We won't be going out of our way, DH wants to go to Best Buy on our shopping day, and there is one next door. I was specifically looking at Glendale in LA, but I guess they are all the same!

IMO the US Costco's are not that different in concept to the Costco in Melbourne. The major difference are pricing (ours are still slightly more expensive) and the brands of groceries you get.

But it depends on what you're looking for and the bargains they have on the shop floor at the time that you're going.

If you're looking at going to a US Costco for clothes shopping and weren't going to renew your Australian membership, then you're better off heading to a warehouse outlet. The amount you save on clothes isn't necessarily worth the membership.

If you're going to the US Costco for electronics, assuming that it carries the specific model/item you want, you could be saving $$. We bought an iPod at Costco and saved $25 over the Best Buys price; which was $$$ cheaper than Australia.

If you're going to buy higher ticket electronics, then the savings could justify the membership.

Thank you PIO - I might skip it then and spend time in places we don't have at home!

I love Costco in the US and will go out of my way to go there!!

Before they opened in Australia I was a US member.

As in Australia it can be luck of the draw as to what is in stock, but I have nearly ALWAYS got some great stuff...towels, Polo Ralph Lauren items, Ed Hardy t-shirts, memory cards for the camera...

There is a Costco not far from DL - just catch the bus on South Harbour Blvd - the opposite way to Target. Last time I was there (which was 2008), there was a great Marshall's store just next door, so worth the trip.

Just my opinion, but I am already looking up where all the different Costco's are for my various locations on this year's trip.

we found costco pretty great in the US, wide variety of goods, and we spent a good $400 from memory, well worth the membership
