Does anyone know if or how a vacationing Canadian can get most of the US taxes back that they spent while on holiday in Florida? :rotfl2:

Why not collect it back like Canada is always offering to tourists when they are here?

Soak the tourists... they don't vote here!

That's the trend all over. Thus, hotel occupancy special taxes, car rental special taxes. And discontinuing the GST rebate program.

We only see rebates when someplace wants to lure the tourists. Then, once you're in the trap, it slams shut and the tourist destination wants to harvest the benefits of all those tourists.

I may sound bitter but actually I'm not. I know my place on the food chain! Sometimes you're the tuna, sometimes you're the prey.

Did you know that Albertans shopping in Washington state and I believe Montana can be exempt from paying state tax at the time of purchase if they ask for the exemption and show ID? This does not apply to restaurant meals and hotel tax. Kinda neat and quite the bonus! :thumbsup2

Did not know that.

No you cannot get the tax back when in florida. Tourists here can only claim the gst and only to a certain limit.

The only thing you can claim is the money the IRS takes from you on weinnings and on lottery proceedes like if you win a car and had to pay th tax you can get it back.
