US Senate passes Matthew Sheppard Act

That's great news but neither of my state's senators voted for it. Both sent me letters telling me that there were already adequate protective anti-hate crime measures in place in AZ. :sad2: And yet... an article in the AZ Republic today cited a Chicana lady testifying her gay brother's body was found in a canal -- no water in his lungs. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Adequate -- yeah right.

Protection against hate crimes, health care for children... georgie vetos merrily along.

Hey. But "half the country wanted him." :confused3

Looks like President Carter is comming out pretty strongly against him.

These days, he can't do anything that surprises me. As an admitted former Republican, he makes me sick. He is the reason why I finally got off my butt and officially changed my party affiliation. There is no way on God's earth I'd ever want to be associated with him in any way, shape or form. He's also one of the key reasons why I've moved from "somewhat conservative" to pretty darn liberal. So I guess he did something good for me.

Passing the bill now won't solve anything. The only way for this bill to pass is to table it until after 1/20/09 when Bush's lame duck is over. Impeachment isn't even a threat for Bush at this point, and reelection isn't a possibility, so he quite literally can do whatever he wants. However, Bush isn't the problem. The problem is that congress can't get their act together enough to garner the 2/3rds majority necessary to smack Bush back in his place.

The child health care bill is bad for america, because it uses tax payer money for children that would qualify for health care from other providers.....like parents who have child care thorugh work. Socialistic health care is not the answer. The current system needs to be fixed and lawsuits must stop.

And, just a little more than half wanted him. Thats the way it goes.

Ah, propaganda. <<<sigh>>> Health care for children who will not recieve the treatment they need without it, is what he's saying no to.

It's convenient to say that those working and can get the health care elsewhere would, with the enactment of that bill, get it for free, but that is simply not the case.

Many people are working and still cannot afford health care for their children.

You may choose to believe otherwise. :confused3 As for me, I'll continue to believe that all children, and adults actually, deserve to have the health care they need.

Actually, less than half the population wanted Bush to be president in 2000 - 50,460,110 votes for the bush vs. 51,003,926 for Al Gore.
