us school term dates?

hi,
im trying to plan our disney holiday for next October 2011 for a family gathering.
i was wondering does anyone know if/when the us school's have an half term in October at what sort of date it is? for how long?
Also if there is any public holidays ie bank holidays in october that would bring people into disney apart from halloween.

just did some hunting around for dates on your behalf and got this link for Orange County Florida schools

Unfortunately all counties and states can be a little bit diffrerent so there is not one answer. With the exception of labour day (which falls on the 2nd monday of October) i can't see any public holidays for that time of year, the next one is Thanksgiving in November.

The US schools don't have a half term in October like UK schools do

Our first try at october next week but from everything i've read it is a great time to go.

Columbus day holiday seems to create only a minor increase in crowds according to touring plans. No half term holidays in US. First week of November can be slightly busier if you are overlapping into then - new jersey schools have a break then.

Lots of states have Fall Breaks in October, but it's just for 2-3 days and not for weeks like you have in the UK.

Cheers for the help guys... We are there from 24/8 - 5/9 next year so should hopefully be a tad quieter with the kids back to school, but oops forgot about Labor Day good job we are going down to Tampa on that day.....

Aww...no worries. I had to look at a calendar before I realized I don't have to go to work next Monday!

Actually a lot of the southern states have a week off in October (this week in fact), since they go back to school mid Aug.

Up here in MA we don't get the time off, with the except of NJ they have a week off which might be now too I can't remember, this week is reffered to as as Jersey Week.
