**Boredom alert** Sorry, domestic details required here :teeth:

For those of you who do laundry in the US, have you ever tried taking our washing tablets, and do they work in the top-loading machines? If so, would you put them in before the clothes, or on top?

I have always bought some of the wash powder used out there, but it's not easy to take an opened box from resort to resort when we're travelling around!

In another thread, Annie mentioned taking liquid capsules, but I think I'd be worried they might pop en route!

Any suggestions?

Hi Hilary,
I always take my own laundry stuff because I use products for sensitive skins. I take a plastic travel bottle filled with liquid soap for hand washing and wash tabs for the machines. I put the tabs in the bottom of the machine and tend to use 2 cos the machines are large capacity compared to mine at home . I also take a box of fabric softener sheets so I don't have to hang around cos some machines need it added during the wash cycle rather than with the powder.
Never had any problems with any of them .

I always take laundry tablets and tumbledryer sheets with me, as well, due to sesnsitive skin, and they work fine, I have found that they travel better (don't get too crushed) if I take them out of the cardboard box and put them into a tupperware type box, which I then use to put opened shampoo etc. in on return flight to save any leaks.

Thanks :)

I have some wash tablets that are supposedly wash and conditioner combined, so I'll take them and some tumble dryer sheets as well.

Domestic stuff dealt with - back to planning the fun things ..... ;)

We buy liquid detergent (in a bottle with a lid - not capsules) out there. I'm not too keen on their regular detergent as it bleaches the clothes, so I tend to buy Woolite which is in a not too huge bottle (same size as the bottles here).

Deb - do you put the liquid detergent in before the clothes, or on top?

Carol and snookhams - do you put the tablets in one of the little net bags, or just straight in the machine?

persil non-bio tablets & yes i put them in the net bag.

can't remember if I put them in 1st or last. don't think it mattered.

its great bringing clean clothes home

We tend to put it in first, but I don't think it makes much difference.

Thanks :)

I really will stop thinking about the laundry now - there are far more interesting things for me to get organised !

:D Oh bless, Hilary. Do you know, I thought of you when I wrote about taking my own washing liquid on the other thread:crazy:

I know what you mean about them popping - but they never have (yet). I put them in one of my trust zip-lock bags and they're very happy in there. I also take a small plastic bottle with Comfort in (have to Comfort me clothes:rolleyes: ), have you seen the size of their bottles of fabric conditioner over there:eek: Enough to last even me and my washing for months:D

Annie, what you and I need is a good holiday to take our minds off domestic trivia ;)
