one of my sons won't ride most roller coasters. For reference: He WILL ride Soarin, 7DMT, Barnstormer, Kali, TT, but NOT Splash, Space, ToT, etc. we have heard the Universal paks are 'mostly thrill rides.' Is that true? How much is there to do with someone like him? Are the HP rides more like roller coaster or less stressful like soarin? TIA

They are not mostly thrill rides. They *have* thrill rides.

DH cannot fit on the thrill rides yet, and he still has a blast at the Uni parks. I'm a chicken and will only go on thrill rides with my son, and I can only do 2 a day without wanting to pass out (one time I actually cried when DS asked to go on a third...not my best moment), but I still have fun at the parks with the other rides that I'm not thinking "I'm gonna die" for the whole ride. And for our first visit or three DS wasn't big enough or brave enough to go on all the thrill rides he wanted, and still....we all had a great time.

The nice thing is that everyone can go through the lines and exit before seating. If he's one of the teens, he can just go on to the exit and wait. If he's the 8 year old he can do that or he can wait in the child swap area (depends on your and his wishes) and you can just get him on the way off the ride.

Agree completely with bumbershoot and schumigirl. I don't do most roller coasters. And get nauseous on many sim rides. But I really enjoy the dark side. There's lots to do beyond the thrill rides.

Re your specific questions in HP: I've only done Hogsmeade (will be seeing Diagon Alley for the first time on our Christmas trip - yay!). Dueling Dragons is thrill coaster. Flight of Hippogriff is similar to 7DMT in "scariness" factor. My 11-year old grandson would not do DD, but we could hardly get him away from Hippogriff. And Forbidden Journey is rougher than Soarin' and has a storyline that is (rather obviously) more scary than a balloon ride - but is much less intense from a sim standpoint than Spiderman, for example.

My opinions only, obviously. HTH!

I'm sorry. I had to laugh! ☺️ Oh, Adventures in Parenting!

Thanks so much to all of you for your great info. I will look into it

I have twins and one hates thrills rides and I am leaving him at home this trip. He would probably ride a total of three rides-Men in Black, Cat in the Hat and One Fish Two Fish. I am not paying that much money for three rides. Nope. He tried Universal a few years ago and really did not enjoy himself. He hated most of the rides. His twin brother loves rollercoasters and thrill rides so I am taking him alone.

How nice that you do "just us" trips with your boys! I did a couple with each of my kids, between the ages of about 9-17, and those are some of the lasting memories from both of their childhoods. Sometimes DH did something with the second child at the same time; sometimes delayed for a few months (due to calendar issues). It's a real blessing for those able and interested in doing it!
