US icedancers Belbin & Agosto

IMO, I didn't think their performance itself was risque, but I thought her outfit was. I guess I'm old fashioned, but her outfit was pretty risque to me.
Somehow, I like that one Italian ice dancing couple, she has the reddish-brown hair. I felt bad she fell. Felt bad most of them fell.

I thought Tanith's outfit and the dance were both appropriately sexy. Ice dancing is definitely not a puritanical sport; it's full of energy and flirtation....think of it as the ice-equivalent to ballroom dancing.

I thought it was pretty darn sexy but I also think she is a stunning girl and pulled it off beautifully. It wasn't trashing IMO, just very sexy.

Now the girl who had the giant powder puff skirt on looked HORRIBLE. I think I would rather look sexy than gawdy!

I was amazed at the amount of falls last night considering how rarely you see them in ice dancing.

I didn't think anything was wrong with her outfit. I thought it was appropriate for the dance that they did. I also thought they were better than the Russians who are currently in first place.

So many of the outfits were in neon colours. I thought they looked awful! Ice Dance is so hard to judge. The little nuances that add points are so difficult to differentiate.

what exactly is the difference b/w ice dancing and pairs' ice skating?

There are no jumps and overhead lifts in dancing. Also no death spirals or throw jumps.

Ice dancing is dance moves on ice, while pairs skating contains many of the same elements that are found in individual skating (jumps, spins, etc.)

Wow, there were a LOT of falls/crashes last night. It used to be that you almost never saw a fall in ice dancing. But with the new scoring system, I think the pairs are trying more difficult, intricate moves, that can result in wipe-outs.

And did you see the Italian pair, who were in the lead, GLOWER at each other at the end, when the man, Maurizo Margaglio dropped his partner, Barbara Fusar Poli? Boy, she had daggers shooting from her eyes!! :scared: :scared:

And has anyone heard how the Candian pair is doing? Marie-France Dubreuil was the woman in the white dress who lost her grip on their last spin, and crashed to the ice on her hip. She was in so much pain that her partner had to carry her to the "kiss-n-cry", then off the floor. Later they showed her being taken by stretcher to the hospital. I hope she doesn't have a fractured pelvis . . .

I thought she looked great and they did a great dance
did you see how mad the italians were whent hey fell
ouch

Basically it's all footwork, which is harder than it seems..No there are no jumps, but the constant changes of edges etc. are very difficult..Some people don't care for it,and I must admit,I prefer pairs but ice dancing has grown on me,especially if I really watch what their feet are doing

I thought they were the best of the duos that I saw, but her skirt did sort of look like it was going to fall off. Those three cords at her waistline with the body of the skirt itself going down at an angle... as she was leaving the ice, I saw her tug at it, bringing the skirt part up a bit.

Ewwwwwwwwww, I hated that puffy-skirted outfit. It obscured the clean lines of the dancing. I kept on watching the skirt and not watching the dancing. The outfit reminded me of that *thing* that Bjork wore to the Oscars a few years back :crazy2: .

Some of those falls were horrendous. I wonder if that one woman will even be able to continue in the competition, her partner had to carry her backstage from the "awaiting points" area.

agnes!

Loved them, she definietly had the body to pull that outfit off and they had so much energy coming off the ice.

Oh, and in answer to the question, the skaters were doing a salsa/rumba number, and are supposed to create an air of sexiness and sultriness, and Belbin and Agosto certainly did that!!!

I would agree! I think ice dancing is notorious for ugly outfits. As for the orginal poster I would certainly say the trend the year is to show the max amount of skin. I doubt it bothers anyone....not too much different than going to the mall (just different designs). Who even watched any of the men...I was like :earseek: is that going to stay in place??? :rotfl:

Here is the latest:http://www.cbc.ca/olympics/sports/f...2006/02/19/Sports/preview_icedance060219.html

The x-rays showed no fractures and the injury is muscular. They still haven't decided if they can skate tonight or not.

Most of the costumes were just horrible. The Today Show even had a piece this morning on how awful they were. The penalty for an overly lewd costume? Only a one point deduction.

The falls were kind of funny...since it's dancing rather than pairs, when one goes down they both go down, which is kind of comical when one second before they were looking so glamorous.

Here is my question: Where are the trainers or other medical personnel in figure skating? If a football player or basketball player has a bad fall, the trainer is right there...sometimes they run out on the field/court, but even if they don't, they are immediately on the sidelines to assess the injury, put ice on it, etc. In figure skating, the athletes hobble off the ice, hobble or get carried by their partners to the kiss and cry, etc. Why aren't the trainers more visible?

I loved their program and their choice of costumes were very appropriate for that style of music (unlike some others, that were just plain awful). It's my understanding that Tanith's mom makes many of them. We watched ballroom dancing a few weeks ago on television and those costumes were much more risque.

We're involved in ice dancing, but at a much lower level. The new judging system is making a huge difference in how the programs are now performed and that's why we're seeing many more falls. Every required element now has a point system attached to it. Every team is now trying to maximize points in their footwork, lifts and spins. If you notice Tatiana Navka of the Russian team, she always grabs her skate in every spin and lift. This is because it increases the difficulty to a level 4. I think it has made dance much more exciting to watch. The teams are becoming more athletic, but continue to try and balance that with elegance and grace. That's not easy.

I too hope the Canadian team is able to go on. Their free dance is one of the most beautiful that I've ever seen. As to how the injuries are handled on the ice, I was also questioning that. The Chinese pairs skater, Dan Zhang, was evaluated by trainers before going back on to continue the long program. It's hard to tell on TV time, but it appeared as though Marie-France was on a stretcher and heading to the hospital as soon as she left the kiss and cry area. If it had been requested by herself or her coach, I'm sure they would have had a wheelchair and trainers attending her as soon as she stepped off the ice.

The Canadian team has now officially withdrawn. So sad.
