Wonder why if you want to get a US AP using the monthly payment plan why they want a 2 day admission for the down payment(premeir). And they only have 2 parks. Disney only requires a 1 day admission and they have 4 parks.

I can't say for certain, but I'm betting it could be, in part, related to the fact that Universal allows out-of-state guests to buy their AP's on the Monthly payment plan.

Disney (supposedly) only allows the Florida Residents to do it in part because it's easier to collect on a defaulted account within the state than if the had to cross state lines.

PLUS... there is the simple fact that Locals are much less likely to see the monthly payment option as a loophole. IE.... Someone coming down for a week, sees they can pay $100 for a AP on the monthly payment plan to cover their entire trip, and then stop paying on it since there would be no way they'd get to use it again.

So based off that logic, Universal requires a larger up-front commitment to hedge against abuse and help feed the "I'm invested in it now" attitude for people interested in the AP's via the monthly payment option.

I also haven't done the math... but I'm wondering if Universal just charges a relatively stable percentage of the AP as the downpayment across all 3 flex pay options, that because of the much higher cost of the Premier ends up being the same as the 2day ticket?

I believe it's half down and half over the year. This is only with flexpay. Next year with flex pay your payment will go up since you absorb the down payment too.

If you do flex pay you do not get a renewal discount either but the price never goes up.

No,,,Im locked in with the same monthly payment forever.(or until I stop my AP)

And $223 down is at least the price of a 2 day ticket

Not quite.

After the first year my Flex-pay monthly price went up slightly (maybe $5-10/mo), however it is then locked into that same price forever.

Not mine,,I JUST got off the phone with them and they confirmed I was and have been locked in at $25.74 a month since 2010 and it will remain that until I cancel.

Yes you are locked into the same payment forever. You just never get a renewal discount. From the first year you started flexpay that is your annual fee.

So if some one today started a Premier AP on Flexpay this is what you would pay.

First day of order= $ 223.65
11 months of payment
$20.34 X 11 = $ 223.74
Total for 1 year= $ 447.39

Now if you buy the pass outright then it will cost you= $447.71

This is the kicker, if you buy the pass outright them after your first year you will get a discount on the pass. Someone else might know this years renewal on Premier pass. I have the preferred FL pass so our rates are cheaper too. You still need to pay this up front with no payments.

If you do Flexpay your AP price does not go up but you pay the same full price from start date. So you will be paying $447.39 divided by 12 payments =$37.28 per month.:thumbsup2

Remember this is on today's rates.

Here is the FAQ on Flexpay:

What is FlexPay SM ?
FlexPay is Universal Orlando’s Flexible Payment Option. This program allows you to purchase Annual Passes with one initial down payment and spread the remainder of your total over 11 months. (Online processing fees do not apply to Annual Passes purchased using the FlexPay program.)

Can I order my Universal Orlando® Annual Pass using FlexPay online? If so, what is the process?
Yes, you can order your Universal Orlando® Annual Pass using FlexPay through our online store. To order online follow these easy steps:

1. Choose how many passes you would like to purchase. (limit 6)
2. Select any add-ons you would like to add to your cart. (optional)
3. Register Passholder information for each pass.
4. Select your desired delivery method.
5. Agree to the terms and conditions in your FlexPay contract.
6. Order with the credit card you want used for monthly payments.

When does my year start? When will I be charged?
Your annual pass will begin with the date of first use not the date of purchase.

After you enter into your FlexPay contract, your credit card will be charged approximately the same day every month. For example, if the first payment is taken on the 10th of the month, all subsequent payments will be charged approximately on 10th of the month. Your renewal payment will be charged on your normal monthly bill date.

What do I do if the credit card I use for FlexPay is lost or stolen, or I want to change the credit card used for payment? Or what do I do if the credit card I use for FlexPay is going to expire? Or I have received a notice in the mail that my passes are temporarily blocked.
Call us at 1-888-5-FLEXPAY and we can update your account with your new credit card information or to take a payment. You may also visit Guest Services at the park and update your credit card information in person.

Can I change the credit card information for only one pass on my contract?
No all passes on the same contract must be billed to the same credit card.

Can I change or postpone my bill date?
No, unfortunately payments can not be postponed. The bill date for your contract can not be changed.

Are there any finance charges for participation in the FlexPay program?
Universal Orlando does not charge any finance charges, and the price of the Annual Pass is the same if you purchase it outright or participate in Universal's FlexPay program.

What happens at the end of my 12 month term?
Flexible Payment Annual Passes automatically renew at the end of the 12 month billing period. After the initial 12 month term, monthly payments are subject to change because you won’t be charged a down payment when you renew.

In order to cancel the automatic renewal you must submit written notification 30 days prior to the end of your contract. If you do not, we will continue your membership by charging the card you provided on a month to month basis.

Please contact the Annual Pass Department at 1-888-5-FLEXPAY for more information on how to cancel your account

Can I cancel my FlexPay account before my one year membership ends?
No. The 12-month initial term of membership cannot be canceled. Member actions that result in cancellation prior to completion of initial membership agreement will require payment in full of each annual pass purchased.

What if I want to remove someone from my FlexPay Account? Can I transfer an annual pass to another person?
You will not be able to remove individuals from your account until your initial term of membership has been completed. Annual Passes are non-transferable.

You did not read his or her post,

After the first year my Flex-pay monthly price went up slightly (maybe $5-10/mo), however it is then locked into that same price forever.

Depending on what year him or her started his only went up $5-10, so his or her pass is probably older than a few years.

You are paying $308.88 per year for 1 pass, I can assume Premier. That's 2010's full pass price for Premier.:thumbsup2

Yup... I want to say..... early 2011 pricing for me. My monthly is currently just about $31 for the Premier. (out of state)

Considering how much the Premier prices have increased already since I've bought my AP.... and I'd be surprised if they didn't jump more after HP2 or some of the other improvements coming down the rumor mill.... I feel like I'm in pretty decent shape despite the lack of the renewal discount. [besides the lump sum just being harder for me to pull off]

This is also why they don't charge interest. They will make their money one way or other. Flexpay for most won't keep it more than a year or two. US gets there money either way.
