US Airways

I am flying US Airways for my solo return flight. I have never used this airline before. I have an assigned seat number and I will only be using a small carry-on.

1. When/how do I get my boarding pass?
2. Do I have to stand in line at the counter to check-in if I do not have a bag to check?
3. I have a layover in Charoltte, NC... is there anything fun in the airport to occupy my time?

1. You have two options. You can check in online starting 24 hours before departure and print out your boarding pass or you can simply check in at the airport at a kiosk or with an agent.

2. No, simply use online check in.

3. There is a center atrium between the B and C concourses. They have rocking chairs and numerous restaurants. I like Tequelaria (near the entrance to the C concourse)

Do you work for them? Many people do not have a high opinion of USAirways, myself included.

Just be prepaired to be mugged by an attendant for your carry-on and have your seat assignment given away. Dont dare question their actions or you will be threatened to be pulled from the flight.

I fly over 100k miles a year on US, I enjoy flying US but its a far cry from the best in the world.

Charlotte is a really nice airport to connect at. Its one reason I prefer US over United, Delta, and Continental.

On board US has cut back a lot! No video or audio entertainment and no snacks in Coach (though they do offer a snack box for sale on longer "meal" flights. Their A321 aircraft do have GoGo wifi though.

US has vastly improved over the past couple years in regards to on-time performance and customer service but they have a long way to go with the hard product itself.

@CaliforniaDreaming, that surprises me as "West" (ex HP) agents are generally perceived as nicer then "East" agents. Either way, overhead bins will fill up. Board early or expect to gate check your bag.

One of the more unusual features of the airport in Charlotte is that they have restroom attendants! Each restroom is staffed by a person who will offer you paper towels, mints, mouthwash or other items. There is no charge for items, but small tips are customary. Is there a charge to gate check my bag??? IF not then, gate checking my bag is fine with me since I will be by myself. As long as they don't try to gate check by personal item that fits under the seat it will all be good. If my bag is gate checked will it be at the gate when I get off or will I have to go to baggage claim?

My seat assignment is not that BIG of a deal since I am alone, but I would still like to have a seat toward the front of the plane.

I have had some friends fly US and were very displeased with it, but for the price I could not pass it up. It was over 1/2 off the next carrier's price for my flight.

I will just hope for the best!

You will be fine with US Airways. In this era of the "flying bus" they will get you there as well as any other legacy carrier. As mentioned, US has improved their product over the past few years, and Charlotte is a nice airport. Enjoy your vacation!

There is no charge when they gate check your bag. It will be sent to baggage claim at your final destination so if they gate check it on the MCO-CLT flight make sure you tell them your final destination otherwise it will be sent to the CLT baggage claim. Quite frankly you can tell them to gate check it in MCO (for free) if you don't feel like lugging it with you. Just tell the gate agent before boarding "I'd be happy to gate check my bag to help save room".

If you have a ticketed reservation with US Airways you can select a seat at any time online or by calling 800-428-4322 begin. If you do not have your 6 character confirmation code they can look up your reservation using your name and flight numbers. They charge for some seats (it's kinda random), but even some seats in the 2nd row of coach are free.

Some people really dislike US. I actually like them enough to make them my preferred airline and will fly them even if they cost more than the competition.

So far this year I have taken 80 flight segments with them. I have had zero mechanical delays, 3-4 minor weather / ATC delays, zero lost / delayed bags, 1 missed connection (in PHL so that's my fault for booking that ), and I'm 100% on upgrades even with a companion! I primarily fly our of DCA and connect in Charlotte.
