US Airways - possibly leaving Philly?

There was an article today in the Philly Inquire about a lot of the major airlines being in trouble and close to bankruptcy. The biggest one in Philly being US Airways. The article said they could possible leave Philly altogether if things don't get better for them. Apparently September 30th is going to be a key date because of current loans the carrier has with various loan institutions. I have tickets for travel in July 2005. If the airline pulls out, what will happen with my tickets?

Southwest moving into Philly is going to kill them. There's no way they can continue with the matching $58 and $78 fares.

That is exactly what the article talked about. Not only Sowthwest, but Air Trans and Frontier is there too. I'm concerned about the tickets I just bought for July 2005 and all of my Frequent flyer miles. If they leave, am I going to lose everything?

DebbieB - Thanks for the link. It's not what I wanted to hear, though. The only good news is I purchased my tickets with a credit card, so if the do liquidate, there is still the Fair Credit Billing Act to fall back on. At this point, I don't know what to do with my miles. I may not get a chance to use them, but then again, there is a chance they will operate as they did last time they filed for bankruptcy. Although, this time it really looks bad for them.

If you have Dividend miles I would start thinking of using them. A great place for up to date info on US Airways is www.flyertalk.com

Go to forums, then airlines, then USAirways.

I don't know how many times they can file for bankruptcy before there is no more US Air. I used to fly them because I had to but I prefer SWA because I have had such good relations with their customer service and the attendents. Sure a lot has to do with the rates because that is what first attracted me to SWA but now it is there customer service and their flights that keep me coming back.

I still have FF miles with US Air but not enough to take any flights. I had something a month or two ago about using them for magazine subscriptions. I may try to find out more about that or other things I can redeem them for.

I feel bad for the cities that has US Air as their main hub. That would be a lot of employees out of jobs!

This is going to be interesting because USAir is the only carrier out of our little airport. I'm going to have to do some reading up in our local paper to see what's going on.

My question that I don't know got answered is that if they file in Septemeber what does that do to my October 23rd and 30th flights? I guess we'll just get our $$ back and drive.
