US Air vs. Airtran

I'm getting ready to book a trip to visit my friend in Boston - I can get virtually the same rate on Us Air or Air Tran. I like the schedule better on US Air. Any opinions on the differences between these two airlines? I know on Air Tran I can choose my seat online 24 hours in advance of my flight. How does that work on US Air?

USAir is one of the old "major" carriers. You should be able to pick your seats at booking.

Personally, any airline can have a good day or a bad day. I don't think that there is a big difference between USAir and AirTran.

I agree here with Carol, on any airline having good days or bad days. My DS choose to fly to WDW via Allegiant Air out of Worcester, MA. I was really apprehensive(about his choice of airlines) but he had booked and paid for the flights so it was a done deal. Well let me tell you, DS and DGF left Sunday the 5th for WDW and scheduled arrival into Sanford/Orlando was 2pm...they made such good time, that they arrived at 1:10pm. He called to say that was the best flight he had ever had....WHO KNEW!!! So you never know with airlines today. I was so relieved and had tracked his flight online the whole time. Thanks again - I went ahead and booked with US Air just because they had a more convenient schedule. Hopefully it will stay that way!
