I am not all that versed in flying and have a silly question...

We have a stopover in DC Reagan of about an hour. Are we allowed to leave the plane and perhaps get something to drink/eat, or should we stay on the plane? No sure about the airport or where the food is, etc or whether we would have enough time.

You are allowed to leave the plane. Be sure to take your boarding pass with you. Will you be on the same plane? There is a food court area close to the gates. You really only have a half hour but that should be enough time.

Yes, we are on the same plane. I was just concerned that with the liquid ban, we would get thirsty and hungry.

Hi, I grew up in North Troy (Lansingburgh)!! We flew last week Alb-DCA-MCO and had an hour layover(changed planes at Reagan). The plane originated in Buffalo. I was talking to a passenger who had left the plane for a drink, as long as you have your boarding pass, there'll be no problem.

I read on the flyertalk board that if there's a crew change, you will have to get off the plane and wait in the boarding area. I guess it makes sense they would not leave the passengers on the plane without a crew. I've seen many times where continuing flights ended up changing planes, so be prepared for that.

I connected at Regan National for the first time last month, it was pretty nice!

They have food in the gate area. You are probably right in that you will not be permitted to take drinks back onto the plane.

We were on a flight to DCA last week... it was a from Knoxville to DCA, and then DCA to White Plains. However, the flight, itself, changed aircraft, so folks going from Knoxville to White Plains still had to change planes in DCA.

We had a short layover in Kentucky last week with a crew change, but we stayed on the plane. I just went back and asked the flight attendants for some extra drinks and we stayed on the plane. I was travelling alone with my kids, so I wasn't about to deplane. It was only 30 -40 minutes. That isn't a lot of time.

The answer to your question really is it depends on whether you have a change of plane - the airline can answer that. But they'll give you beverages on the plane - and you can bring snacks with you, just not liquid (we had lots of snacks with us).

the airline can answer that
Please keep in mind that sometimes the airline cannot answer that until the shortly before the flight. This is because unforeseen operational issues might change flight schedules.

thanks to all. They told me I wasn't going to have to change planes, but I thought about mechanical issues, etc as well.
