I have been watching flights from Elimra NY to Philly, then Philly to Orlando for Sept 2014 for the last month or so. Yesterday round trip was 430. Today the return flight from Orlando jumped over 100 bucks making it around 550 round trip. Is this a trend or will US Air's prices settle down?

They'll change up and down. Its far too early to book for Sept. unless you find a very good deal. I've just booked several flights this week on US Airways for various destinations. Today I noticed the flight I want dropped $50 from yesterday.

Did you check United? I checked Orbitz, United's fares ELM/MCO are much lower for September, at least the dates I checked.

USAirways just merged with American, so there will be alot of changes going on.

Yes, but it's going to take a long time. They will operate as separate airlines for the next 1 1/2 - 2 years.

USAir did that with my flight a while ago. It was $217 forever and then one day it jumped to $368. Needless to say I about had a heart attack. But the next day it went back down. I went ahead and purchased about 4 months out. It was driving me crazy waiting for the price to drop. I am so used to flying SWA and the ability to get a credit without a fee. USAir made me nervous.

They went back down a little today, but not much. Still gonna wait it out. Any chance by April or May they will drop to more reasonable rates (reasonable being 350 or less from Elmira NY to MCO and not 500+)?

Is there a chance? Sure. How much of a chance? No one here can say with any certainty. Buying airfare is a gamble.

FWIW, http://matrix.itasoftware.com shows most of the month of september @ $252 round trip. There's a couple of $282 days. I picked a 7 day trip at random and the $252 is on United.

We just booked our May US Air flights on Thursday. It has been going up and down for a bit. I settled on $250 roundtrip and it was up over $350 when I last checked. Good luck!!

I booked US Air jan 6 for a April 11 trip, earlier than I have in the past. Pricing out of DC has not come down. In dec when I looked prices were at 450. Grabbed ticket for 250. Price for the flights have not been near since, same flights have been hovering at 660 since. I would monitor daily and book when I was comfortable with price. We are flying on Fri. night instead of Sat. Last year I flew Fri AM to save

Will US Air's rates drop for Sept once Southwest releases theirs?

US Air's rates will be cut in 1/2 once SW releases theirs! :thumbsup2

If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you also. :lmao:

Bottom line, no one knows what airfares will do. Asking what airfares will do is like asking where the stock market will be in 6 months.

SW doesn't fly to Elmira for there to be competition. Looks like the competition is United and their fares are lower now.

We are flying US Air in April. We got our airfare in December and I just checked it today and it's staying the same. In my experience, I waited too long. When I first looking about 11 months out (mostly United) airfare from California to MCO was in the low to mid $400's. I thought since I was looking so far out, it would go down. It didn't. Not only that, but times and connections all changed. Now, in most cases I would of had to changed planes 2 to 3 times and arrive in MCO the next day. When I finally realized United wasn't coming down, I looked more at US Air. They were always hire than United but times were better and so were the connections. Paid more with US Air than if I had gotten it way back with United. I checked United the other day it went up over $100 more, it's now over $700.
