I have to book hotels today for New Year.

Which resort is best out of the moderates - is CBR open by 27th Dec?

Which one at PO should I go for?

I'm ruling Coronado out.

Thanks a million.

OOOHHHH SAM!!!! Does this mean you're going to be in WDW for Xmas and New Year? Do tell all!

Regarding moderates - the only one we have stayed in is DXL - now Port Orleans Riverside - it is a lovely setting with a river running through it, boats to hire at the marina and also surrey bikes. The food court is very good and very picturesque with it's water wheel. Also there is the boat to downtown disney but I'm not sure if that is still running as I heard it had been withdraw, you would need to check that out.

I assume you have seen the AP codes which are now available? If not, they are on www.mousesavers.com.

Let us know all the details! :D

I got this through today

Caribbean Beach Resort Reopens!

The Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World, which has been closed for refurbishment of its Old Port Royale restaurant area since September 8, 2002, will reopen on December 21, 2002. They are taking reservations for stays beginning on that date!

The moderate resort closed earlier this fall to refurbish its food court area, Old Port Royale, as well as add a new 130-seat table-service restaurant called Shutters. The new eatery will feature American cuisine inspired by flavors of the Caribbean. Thanks to Sue Pisaturo of Small World Travel for the info!

so yes, CBR should be open. We stayed there last year and really loved it. I haven't stayed at POR, but would consider it. Like you, I wouldn't go to Corando Springs - I just don't fancy it

We stayed at POR when we went and absolutely loved it. Beautiful place, it still has a full service restaurant unlike POFQ, and the food court is excellent. The bus service was fine, only really crowded coming home in the evening, but I'm sure that's a problem at all the resorts. But I believe the boat service hours have been reduced to between 4.30 to 10 pm.

Hi Sam,

We've stayed at CBR and POR, and of those two I preferred POR - however, I'd be more than happy to return to CBR if pushed! ;)I've visited POFQ, but not stayed there.

We stayed in Alligator Bayou in POR, but I think I might opt for the Manisons if I was going as a couple (more romantic, I think :teeth: ).

Have fun choosing!

In Aug 2001 we stayed at CBR and had a wonderful time, my only reservation was about the food court but it looks like that has been resolved now.

We stayed in the Jamacia section which was great for the buses as it was the 1st stop for picking up and usually the 1st drop off. It was about a 3-4 minute walk to OPR which was no problem.

POR looks really good to. I'm sure whichever you choose you'll have a great time.

Regards
Mick

Sorry for the delay in answering.

We stayed in Magnolia Terrace (?I think that's what it's called!!) in the Mansions part. On a previous trip when we stayed offsite but spent a day just going round the resorts, we just fell in love with that bit. The Alligator Bayou is wonderful too, and I know some people love it, but we found just a bit too backwater looking!! The foliage is quite dense and I found it a little bit creepy! The Mansions are much more open.

Thanks Bexx

I think I may be going to CBR now as it's closer to Epcot and MGM and has been recently refurbished soooooo...... Oh god I don't know I think I'm going to just have to be brave and make a bloomin' decision ;)

CBR certainly looks very nice. I read somewhere that the two choices of standard view were of a parking lot or a courtyard, so it might be worth trying to request a courtyard view!!! I'm not certain, but I think you can request a coffee maker for your room at CBR which you can't get at the other moderates.

I'm sure you will enjoy wherever you choose - the main thing is you're staying in WDW. :Pinkbounc

we had a coffee maker at CBR, and were quite gutted that we didn't get on in the AKL. It seems a bit cheap not to provide coffee makers, but I guess they want you to buy their mugs.

We stayed in Barbados I think, it was room 1313 - I remember that! It was the last bus stop, which meant you were on your way to the parks quicker, but less likely to get a seat. On the way back we just got off at the first stop and walked across to our room, it wasn't far, just the next 'island'
