Urgent!! Please pray !!

When I worked at a bank, it was common for all of us to have nightmares about being held up and or taken hostage. Something like that could happen anyday. Something we had to deal with if we wanted to work there.

that's why I'm saying if this isn't something you can handle, you might wish to change jobs.

Ok, while I don't agree with you, I appreciate your explanation.:thumbsup2

Who is she? Where does she work? What's the name of the person who called her? What's the name of the patient? What's the nature of the illness?

That is not important. He or she is writing things about a patient that does not belong on the Internet. It is damaging a patient and violating every rule.
Sooner or later this will come back to haunt her/him and in the long run will only be a problem to him or herself.

But again would you like to be exposed on the Internet like this even anonymously?

Like being a gas station or convenience store attendant on the night shift. Something you know has a really likelyhood of possibly happening and need to accept it to work there.

While I could handle the bank job, I don't think I could handle night store clerk. Therefore, I'm not looking for one of those jobs.

It is absolutely important. There is no violation of any code (HIPAA or moral) here by the OP. I suggested there could be a violation of company policy by using a company computer to post on the DIS on company time, but that is a different story.

As for whether it would bother me...how would I know if it was done without mentioning me by name?? Even if I saw something written that looked suspiciously like it was about me, how would anyone else know it was about me?

You are grasping at straws.

If it were anonymous, it truly wouldn't bother me because anonymous means no one knows who I am. It could be any Jane Doe in Timbuktu for all we know. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be able to find out where the OP is even if I tried, unless something bad happens and it gets on the news. But in that case, I don't think the fact that she posted her fear on the internet will be an issue considering a police event occurred.

Not saying you're wrong, just saying i have a different view.

Well first of all - you have a right to feel safe in your place of employment. If you feel threatened, then you really don't need your company's permission to call the police. They are your employers, not your Lord Supreme of All Decisions.

Second, I'm rather unclear on why this event made you so uneasy but I think that given your place of employment the receptionist and staff really needs a more clear cut procedure for dealing with this type of event. If nothing else, your receptionist should certainly have the option to pass the caller along to a mental health professional to evaluate. You know, something more effective than just spreading the trembles amongst all the front line staff as you sit and wait.

I have nothing against asking the internet community for prayers but I think that having some sort of controlled entrance into the building in such a situation might also alleviate some of your fear.

Third, if threats are a common occurrence I think your employer almost certainly needs to implement some type of security. If they are unwilling to do so and you feel unsafe, then I'd certainly leave the employment. If you have ample documentation of such occurrences you'd almost certainly have a valid unemployment claim while you looked for a new job - at least in this state.

I agree we disagree but with respect.:thumbsup2

Only a little off-topic

It just seems like your management has set it up so that a previous mental health patient may not be able to have an appointment made by someone else JUST because they were a previous patient.

Many mental health patients are in such a state that they are unable to make thir own appointment. I would suggest that they make change the policy to you make a simple appointment, and at the end ask the person (if not the individual) "Is this person already a p[atient of the office". You can record their answer (Yes or No) without ever verifying with the person making the appointment whether they WERE ever a patient.

Worst that happens is the person says they were previously a patient, they come in and it turns out they weren't, so now they are a new patient.

Just a thought

Deb, does Hippa have specific rules if it's a mental facility? I'm thinking the guy wants to make an appt for the woman and the staff has to pull her chart, which is giving out info that the person is a patient there. :confused3

I think you have to have a specific release for mental health information. A general "release" will only contain medical information.

But back to this mental health center - I don't know why the person making the appointment has to be told, or has to know, if the patient was new or a return.

Couldn't you just take the information, give the person calling an appointment time, then check within the office if this is a new or return? :confused3
