urgent help regarding currency!!!

has anyone used thomas global exchange? Have put an order through tonight at a rate of 1.529 which we could either fix and pay within 3 days or pay and get the rate on the day we pay.Decided to fix as happy with that. They charge £5 for the special delivery and we will have all the money by thursday to pay. Obviously if we decide not to go through them(after what you guys say) then I will have to phone ice but they say my bank charges £4.50 to release the funds.Dont get that one plus there rate is les than TGT.

Well I am not any help to you at all about TGE. An extra charge for special delivery (as opposed to recorded delivery) is pretty normal. Who is claiming your bank will charge to release the funds? Is that ICE or TGE? Sorry I wasn't sure about that.

I don't want to start a debate because I am sure it has been mentioned by you before, but is there any reason you had opted not to do FairFX? I just did another top up tonight and even the fallen rate was at $1.535 half an hour ago. Not much help to you at this stage in the game though.

Maybe some wise DISers are still awake.

we used global exchange a couple of years ago - no probs
now we use fairfx and take a bit of cash with us

I have used the post office One before but using fairfx this time did not have a problem till I tired to top up on the phone and everyone was so rude

Oh I realised that. It definitely wouldn't be here in time. Mine came in a few days but the pin took another 5 days or so. I was just wondering out aloud why you had not opted to get one beforehand - I may be confusing you with someone else, but I thought it was you who had a reason for not being too keen on this. Apologies for the confusion.

I am glad you got sorted though. I think you got a great rate.

I knew there was a reason. It isn't right for everyone.

Don't stress about the packing. I am packing in a two hour window this year (check out my pre trip report - I think it's in the first post).
