Hello all - my girlfriend and I are off to WDW for the first time on Sunday, but I have just heard some slightly worrying news...

I have heard that Disney now operate a new policy where they are likely to ask for Photo ID to gain entry to the park.

We have booked a package deal through Virgin holidays, and at the time we booked it includedthe Ultimate Park Hopper ticket (I have since heard that this has been replaced with an Ultimate Length Of Stay ticket, but as we booked before the change we will still get the Ultimate Park Hopper - can anyone confirm this??)

My main concern is this aspect of Photo ID. I'm okay in that I have a photo card driver's license which I can keep in my wallet - if I lost it then it wouldn't be the end of the world. However, all my girlfriend can take is her passport - we clearly don't want to be losing that.

I have emailed Disney direct, but not had a response yet. I am going first thing on Sunday morning, so I really need to know if there is any other way e.g. taking a photocopy of the personal info page of the passport

Any help would be much appreciated

I haven't heard of this - but I am pretty certain that a photo copy of your passport is sufficient. We were told that we would need photo ID at Discovery Cove last year and I took all our passports with me. It turned out that all I needed was one (mine) and they would have accepted as photocopy.

I would not worry about this - I'm sure someone will give you the definative answer - but just get a copy of your passports done in case.

Have a great holiday.

Don't worry, photo ID will not apply to you, I think and someone will correct me if I'm wrong ;) that the photo id rule is for certain types of pass, either premium annual or military or something like that, you'll be fine, I would tho' give virgin a call about your ultimate park hopper, I'm sure its still valid but there may be a new 'rule' about swapping it in a t guest services or something for the equivalent new passs, you don't want to do that if you can help it as it will mean queueing at guest services when you could be in the park, again I'm not sure if thats the case but best be safe.
also if they do say you have to swap it in get them to send out new ones now on courier to you before you go

Thanks for the advice - its put my mind at rest a bit. I think I may get photocopies done anyway, and then ask the CMs when I check in to confirm things.

Luckily we're not planning on hitting a park on arrival day, so if worst comes to the worst I can spend some of my time on arrival day swapping the passes as you mentioned if I need to - that way I can be at MK ready for park opening time on my first morning :flower:

As I said, that was my guesstimate so you may not have to swap them at all, worth checking out first.
have a wonderful magical trip and be sure to return to the DIS when you come back to let us know how it was for you :sunny:

Carrying a photo ID with you is always a good idea IMO.

A lot of stores are now asking to see a photo ID in conjunction with credit card purchases. So if you are planning on paying for things using plastic then the card holder would be well advised to carry their ID as well.

Thats good advice - I think (as I will be the card holder) that I will always carry my driver license around with me.

If you photocopy your info page of your passport, I should get it laminted as it prevents a lot of damage.

It is actually illegal to make a colour photocopy of your passport, black and white it okay I think.

Entry to all WDW parks now requires biometric identification and applies to all types of pass. I think a scan of your fingerprints is downloaded the first time you use your pass. Photo ID would only be required if the biometric ID didn't match, but even then they don't seem to bother. We just got back and several times when I used my Annual Pass, I noticed that the electronic read-out said something like "different person", but I was never asked for ID.

However, the advice to carry photo ID is good. For a start, if you want an alcoholic drink, you will be asked for ID if the bartender thinks you look 30 or under, even though the legal drinking age is 21. Any photo ID is good, though - it doesn't have to be something official such as a Passport or Driving Licence.

That's exactly what me and my boyf did! (and we have been wondering about the Ultimate ticket too)

Have you already received your Park Hopper?
If not I would stay that you'll be given either the Ultimate 14-day or 21-day (depending on your length of stay) - don't worry, it will work in exactly the same way as the Park Hopper (I believe!).

From past visits, I was always under the impression that you didn't get your Park Hopper (or the new Ultimate tickets) until you get to your hotel - I presume you're staying at Disney if you're getting the Park Hopper - because isn't it usually attached to your room key?
Are the Ultimate's like this as well?

Maybe I'll take my Uni ID or Driving Licence just in case (don't really want to be carrying my Passport around everywhere!)..

Yep, as far as I am aware I will get given my disney ticket - whatever it may be - when I check into my hotel

I think they'll just give you the Ultimate then instead (unless they still have some Park Hoppers) - but like I said, I believe that they are exactly the same :)

And going on Sunday  you must be bouncing with excitement!
I've got months left 'till I go - but still! :jumping1: :jumping3:

I am more excited about this than anything in my whole life!! Sad I know, but true!!!

Not sad at all!
Have you been before?

As already stated, you really must both carry photo ID, for various uses. For example, in some places, you will both need to show your ID to purchase 2 alcoholic drinks.
Your first trip will be awesome. Hope you have a great time.
