And to everyone who mentioned Sciatic nerve pain---UGH! It felt like someone was slowly drilling a hole in in my back with an old, rusty drill!

My mother had a backache, my grandmother made her go to the hospital, 1/2 and hour after she got there, I was born.

I'd say call the doc. A backache is one thing. Back pain so severe that you can't function is another. Even if it has nothing to do with labor, there's probably something wrong...maybe somthing got pulled or pushed out of alignment with the pregnancy or something.

I know about sciatic nerve too. I couldn't get up from the couch the pain so so bad. DH had to help me to get up and even that way hurt so bad!

Hey guys, Im just getting around to posting back. My doctor did mention the sciatic nerve thing and seems to think thats whats going on. There apparently isnt much to help it though so I guess I'll just try to rest more and play the waiting game. My baby shower was last night too and it was a beautiful party but boy was it hard to keep a smile plastered on my face when I thought my back was going to snap. One of my girlfriends came up to me during the party and asked if I was all right and I just looked at her and said "does it show" LOL she said YEP.

Beautybelle--glad to know it's just the back pain and not labor. Trust me, I feel for ya. I was on my feet 8-10 hrs a day up until the last week of my pregnancy and when I came home, I couldn't do ANYTHING except sit/lay down with a heating pad pressed to my back with my feet up (because of the intense swelling).

If it hasn't eased up with change in your position (sitting instead of standing, standing instead of sitting)...it could be back labor.
