Welcome to New York City!

(More specifically, welcome to the Blogger Building)

nyc-rental-apartment-no-doorman1.jpg

While the chic, rustic apartment building on 1st Ave technically isn't officially named "Blogger Building", perhaps a rechristening is in order. King's View Apartments are cheap, directly across from a bus stop and encompassed in a myriad of stores and services. Maybe that's why it attracts so many bloggers- these well-to-do young men and women who dream about getting famous for spending time on the computer. In the mean time, bloggers-in-training need to go to school, have jobs, eat, sleep, and socialize. So they come to King's View. An apartment complex that suits them as they handle college, part time jobs, social drama, and of course- running their blogs. The rooms are large with private baths and kitchenettes, and the lobby downstairs has a little TV and couch area for hte tenants to relax and socialize with each other. The building never seems to run out of apartments, whereas the tenants seem to come and go as they please- some have lived here for 10 years, some disappear for months at a time and come back as they please. Either way, one thing is for sure- Blogger Building is full of savvy, creative individuals. Care to join us?

OOC-
Okay. So, I realize this was kind of a cheesy intro. Whenever I try to write something gripping, it usually comes out like that. But anyway, I've noticed that some common themes on this board are-
1. Writers
2. Fans/Nerds (theater, supernatural things, harry potter, avengers, obviously disney, etc.)
3. Tumblr/Social Media fans in general
So I wanted to make a creative RP that would cater to ya'll without excluding anyone else. This way, fans can connect with certain interests while other people can just relax and have fun over the sake of a cute, casual RP with a loose plot. I know somebody also mentioned that they'd like to see an RP structured with a loose enough plot for people to be able to come and go as they please, so I hope this is good enough for that.

I'll leave it up to you how invested you want to be as "blogger" characters. If writing isn't really your thing, you can just concentrate on the social aspect of the RP with some "blogger" things peppered in here and there (i.e. "Kara typed up a draft for an article then went back down to the lobby"). But if you really want to commit to your blogging thing, you could also start a blog. I'll let you interpret that as you see fit. If you want to create a Tumblr for your character (side blog feature FTW) or even just dabble some posts up on the thread itself, let me know and I'll link your blog/posts to the main thread for a reference to everyone.

I hope ya'll will enjoy this! I tried hard to come up with a cute, original RP idea that everyone would enjoy. This is purely experimental and I don't know if it's going to go over well, but I thought it was worth a shot.

RULES

Just be nice to each other (Don't be rude OOC, and if you have a mean character make sure to just clear things up OOC-ly afterwards/beforehand) and keep it PG13. Also obviously no godmoding. ALSO, if you start a "blog", make sure the content on it is appropriate for Disboards as well.

Obviously remember that only college-aged people or older will be living on their own. If you want to be younger than, say, 18 or 19, make sure to clarify that you're living with your family. You don't have to make separate sign up sheets and everything for them, but talk about them a little bit/make sure their presence is real, even if it's small.

If you want to be roommates with another RP-er, just make sure both of you post on this thread saying so :)

This is a great idea!!! I will sign up as soon as I come up with a character, but I really like this idea, it's nice and loose and it's a great way to cater to everyone's interests! Looking forward to it.

Is there a limit to how many characters we can have? I probably wouldn't want to have more than 3, but just wondering.

Nope! No limit! Have fun :-)
(I was out all day watching BH6 and hanging with my friends so I don't even have a character either :faint:)

How was it?? I'm gonna go see it this week sometime and I'm really excited! No spoilers though, of course.
I have at least one character but I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with a title for her blog!! I'll probably have her done by tomorrow though.

ITS SO GOOD OMG!!! And so funny, too!!!! I didn't know what to expect out of it but I really, really, really liked it!

This looks really really interesting. With my school schedule, I've been needing a RP like this. When I'm creative enough to think of a character, I think I'll sign up.

Name: Viola Winston (goes by Vi)
Age: 18
Blog title/type/brief description: "Noteworthy: Musical Ramblings and Reviews" Vi considers herself to be an appreciator of nearly all kinds of music, and started a blog to express herself through her deep love for music, in all forms. There are very few musical genres she doesn't listen to and love at some level, so she wanted a way to share that love with the world. Most of her posts are about certain musical artists and genres and what is is she loves about them, and sometimes she posts videos of her own compositions and performances. She is a singer, and plays piano and viola (ironically). She only posts about once every two weeks and tries to cater towards all music loves.
Personality: She is a rather shy person, and doesn't usually like to interact with others. She's an introvert, but strangely enough she loves performing. When she's on stage, she can forget herself and her insecurities and lose herself in the music. She is always worried that people are judging her. She is also very modest and humble and always thinks she performs worse than she does.
Appearance: Vi is tall with long brown hair, large brown eyes, and freckles.
Job/School currently attending (can be 100% fictional): She's going to a music school in New York a few miles from the building, and is a part of two different choirs, a string quartet, and is trying to get involved in musical theater.
*Apartment description (useful for helping establish setting/indirect characterization but not mandatory): She likes to keep things neat and orderly and can't stand clutter most of the time. She owns a vast collection of CDs, many of them signed, and displays them proudly, and decorates with posters from various musical groups.

OOC: I'm not going to start an actual blog for her, but I'll probably post little pieces of imaginary posts every once in awhile. But I will probably be more active with my other character which I'm still working on. Vi might get dropped if I just can't think of stuff to write, since I kind of chose a pretty narrow topic for her blog...

Name: Mary Ann Davis
Age: 16 (lives with her mom)
Blog title/type/brief description: Mary Ann's blog is called The Disney Addict Diary. (I don't know what you mean by type, sorry.) Mary Ann's mom used to work in Disney World and her dad used to work at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Through them, she became what she considers herself the biggest Disnerd ever. She posts about different things involving Disney.
Personality: She is very bubbly and optimistic. She considers herself a fun person. 98% of the time she will be happy. The only time she cries is when watching sad scenes in Disney movies. She hopes to be a face character in WDW or be a part of the DCP one day.
Appearance: http://www.polyvore.com/wannabe_tumblr_girl/thing?id=111564006
Job/School currently attending (can be 100% fictional): She attends St. Mary's High School, a private all girls Catholic school. It was where her mom went when she was Mary Ann's age. Her mom feels like she needs a Catholic education as well and that was the closest Catholic school to the appartment building. (OOC: That's the name of the school I'm using for a story I'm writing so I just decided to use it lol)
*Apartment description (useful for helping establish setting/indirect characterization but not mandatory):
Living Room
Mary Ann's Room (also where she blogs)
Her mom's room
Kitchen
Bathroom (it doesn't say get naked and there's of course a sink)

Name: Beatrice Menlo
Age: 18
Blog title/type/brief description: Her blog is called "Unwritten", inspired by the song of the same name. It is a writing blog, chiefly, and Beatrice lovingly refers to it sometimes as her "nerd" blog. It's theme is that the rest of your life is still unwritten, and there is so much more to discover, learn and do. She blogs about all kinds of things, usually ramblings about her various passions, which include theatre, writing/books, and music. She posts about once a week, and her posts can vary greatly in both style and substance. Sometimes she sparks lively debates about certain books/movies/TV shows/artists she likes and doesn't like, sometimes she posts poems or short stories, or small snippets of her own life and experiences. So it's really an "everything blog". Wow, sorry for the long description... :P
Personality: Beatrice is outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic. She is strong-willed, can be stubborn at sometimes, and is usually overwhelmingly optimistic, even when things seem to be just going totally wrong. She holds on to what she loves fiercely and has a hard time giving things up, or giving up control in general.
Appearance: tall (why are my characters always tall?) with medium length very curly blonde hair with lots of volume (kinda think Merida but blonde and half as long) and grey eyes.
Job/School currently attending: She is attending college right now, studying English, and wants to be a writer. She's in the process of trying to query publishing agents to get some of her writing published (she's written three novels and several short stories).
Apartment description: Her apartment is incredibly messy and cluttered, as she likes it that way, her bed is always unmade, and there are always papers everywhere. She dabbles in art and cartooning as well, and so her drawings usually end up scattered all over the table. When friends come to visit they always complain about the mess, but Beatrice is adamant that she likes it that way and it helps her think.

So I put a lot of thought into this, and am thinking of actually making this blog but doing it under my own name, or a nickname. If I do, I'll link to it.

Name: Athena "Abby" Ward
Age: 19
Blog title/type/brief description: "Confessions of a Musical Princess"- a cute blog, mostly personal writing about her life and anything she likes.
Personality: Bubbly and cute. Likes Japanese culture and musicals. Desperately wants to be on Broadway. Sees shows as often as she can.
Appearance: Petite and brunette. I'll make a polyvore thing maybe probably.
Job/School currently attending (can be 100% fictional): Attends St. Newton University in NYC, majors in Early Childhood Education. Part time job at Lush cosmetics.
*Apartment description (useful for helping establish setting/indirect characterization but not mandatory): It's small and cute and I'll make another polyvore for it.

Name: Belle Davies
Age: 21
Blog title/type/brief description: "The Daily Dose of Disney", Disney blogger.
Personality: Belle is very bright and vivacious, and a well-gifted writer. Nice but not too outgoing. Just finished undergrad school, working to become a nurse graduate.
Appearance: Blonde. Doesn't wear flashy clothes. I'll make a polyvore.
Job/School currently attending (can be 100% fictional): NYU, part time job at the Disney store at Times square.
*Apartment description (useful for helping establish setting/indirect characterization but not mandatory): Larger studio, blue color scheme, plain.

Name: Poppy Wilkins
Age: 20
Blog title/type/brief description: "A Day in the Life of Poppy"- She's a vlogger. Hauls, makeup, clothes, and traveling are her specialties.
Personality: Poppy is very rich and privileged. She's smart and good to her fans online, but not quite as cheery and happy in real life. She has a taste for the finer things- expensive vacations and cosmetics especially.
Appearance: Pretty dark brown hair and stunning blue eyes. Again, I'll make a polyvore later.
Job/School currently attending (can be 100% fictional): Does various acting jobs in the city- mostly extras, waiting for her big break.
*Apartment description (useful for helping establish setting/indirect characterization but not mandatory): Really big and pretty.

Originally I didn't think I had any good material for this. But then I had a thought:

Is it possible for multiple characters to work on the same blog?

Yes, of course! You always have good characters. I'm excited to see what you do :)

Yes, of course! You always have good characters. I'm excited to see what you do :)

Well, then I have two or three blog ideas that would have multiple people participating. Give me a few moments, please.

Here's the first one, the only definite one. You might recognize these ones. ;)

Blog 1:
Named The Princess Diaries after the book series and movies, this blog is the joint day-in-the-life blog of three princesses in the modern world. Halolani Kai is the descendant of the Hawaiian royal family which was overthrown with the US' takeover of Hawaii. Hal now works as an NCIS agent (an injury ended her naval career) while going to college as a History major. Octavia Sinclair is the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist and heir to a tiny Eurpoean country. She's going for yet another doctorate and generally enjoying herself. Tatiana Ivanova-Romanova had no idea she was royal blood for most of her life until the fateful day when she learned she was a descendant to a legendary historical figure and heir to the kingdom said figure established. She has no idea what she's going to do. Together the three room together and write their stories on their Princess Diaries blog.

Name: Octavia Sinclair
Age: 19
Blog type/brief description: The Princess Diaries
Physical Appearance: She has blonde hair and green eyes. Octavia
Background Information:
Personality: Octavia is wise, intelligent, brilliant, practical, kind, reserved, bookish and secretive. Octavia is a certified genius. Literally, she has three doctorates already (Computer Engineering, English and Law if you were wondering). Despite her age, as a good scientist and writer, she is well respected among the intellectual community. With her prestige as a scientist, combined with her role as a princess of her small city-state of Toscana, she carries a lot of influence, influence she knows she has but doesn't know how to wield.

Name: Halolani "Hal" Kai
Age: 21
Blog type/brief description: The Princess Diaries
Physical Appearance: She is of Hawaiian descent and has black hair and dark eyes Hal
Personality: Hal is quiet, reserved, secretive, aggressive, brave, strong, determined, stubborn, dangerous, subtle, and a complete tomboy. Hal is the youngest descendant of the Hawaiian royal line, but the Hawaiian royal line hasn't been recognized since America invaded Hawaii and forcefully dethroned the queen at the time, so Hal has had to work her whole life. Hal has been an agent with the NCIS for about a year now, and is one of the best, which in hindsight they should have known because the name Halolani literally means "to move quietly" and Hal was very sneaky and clever as a child.

Name: Tatiana “Tate” Ivanova Romanova
Age: 16
Blog type/brief description: The Princess Diaries
Physical Appearance: She has dark brown hair and brown eyes Tate
Personality: All her life, Tate has been the regular, average girl. Awkward yet cool and cool yet awkward, a balance of intelligence, athleticism, artistic and creativity. She is the great granddaughter of the long lost Princess Anastasia Romanova of Russia. Tate was just a regular girl until her class did a blood test to trace their genealogy for a genealogy project when her heritage was discovered.

Okay, let me talk this out, and maybe somebody will help me come to some sort of idea.

So I noticed there are no boys so far. Male bloggers are probably not a large group, but still, I know RPs that are predominantly female or only have female characters have not done well in the past. So since I believe I do males very well, I thought I would give you some.

The problem is I hesitate to make anyone new because I've still got a list of sets to do on polyvore and I don't want to use a face then find out I need it later. Also I've made some random people and have no idea who they are, as well as characters I barely got to use, so I thought I'd do them.

I just can't find a group and a blog that I'm completely sold on.

There was one I was going to call Heroes of Olympus, about a bunch of wannabe Olympians, but of the 7 characters I would choose for it, only 2 are guys. There are so many female characters already!

Then I had an idea of a blog started by SHIELD agents, but one, of the 4 only 2 are male, and the other, this can be about fandoms but it isn't my thread and I don't want to impose or derail the thread.

Then, I thought just put my three unaffiliated guy together and say it's a project, but what a blind guy, a blondie and an Italian will have in common to write about I have no clue.

Last, I thought just get a bunch of random characters and have their blog be called the Geek Pages and have them all be fanboys and fangirls, but again, I still don't think I have enough guys for that, and it sounds kinda lame, at least in comparison to the others.

I have no idea what I'm doing.

I think one of the largest factor in not having male RP characters is not just that there aren't a lot of males in the blogging community- it's also that we have a predominantly female group of people on these boards and in these RPs as general. But I agree with you. I shall have a male character as well.

I see what your problem is. I mean, I suppose you don't have to have polyvore sets? But it's your personal choice so if that's just how you do things I definitely won't stop you. I just don't want you to feel pressured into making a bunch of polyvore sets that are just going to stress you out.

I mean, when I said "fandoms" I meant characters who enjoyed the same fandoms we have, I'm not sure having superheroes and Olympians in the same building as average joes is a good idea. I'm not tooootally against the idea, but how would you incorporate them into a world with just normal people? They'd have to be concealed a lot and you wouldn't have a lot of people to RP with when it comes to your powers and stuff. If you can find a solution or just more people interested in this idea, by all means, go for it. Until then, keep thinking- if it's planned well, it's not going to derail the thread.

Um... maybe they go to the same school together and work on the blog for their school website? That could work? LOL. Sorry, I don't have anything for this one either. But you're good at this stuff- sleep on it and you'll come up with something.

The Geek Pages thing is actually a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY good idea! And you could have a lot of male characters for it! I say go for it!

In any case, you're super good at creating dynamic characters and universes. I'm gonna let you do what you think is right, create who you think is appropriate for the thread, and work things out the way you think it'll work. I'm fairly new to the RP community. My characters have all been theatrical white girls who like boy bands so far. I'm just looking at people like you for guidance. I'm gonna give you as much freedom as possible for this one.

Would vloggers count as bloggers? I was thinking of making a character who does gaming videos on YouTube?.
