Can someone please explain to me why people make like 10 different reservations for the same day for every day of their trip and then cancel them the week before their trip? This just upsets me so much. It's people like this who cannot decide on their plans and just hog up all of the reservations that make it impossible for other people who are trying to plan their trips in advance and get the reservations they need. I just think this is so selfish and greedy. Plan your trip, make the reservations you need and be done. If you don't get the reservations you want or plans change, book your new reservation and immediately cancel the one you won't be using. I cannot for the life of me understand why the disney dining agents allow people to do this. Okay sorry, end rant. I just had to know if this bothers anyone else.

How can one person make 10 ADRs for the same day?? I thought the Disney reservations computer would not allow more than one reservation within a given time frame for any given guest.

I thought that Disney cracked down on doubling-up on ADRs for the same meal. If you're looking for an ADR I would suggest that you join the appropriate ADR cancellation thread for your month.

I thought they had cracked down on it too. You can't do it online but you can over the phone. I called and made a reservation for the exact time on the same day and the dining agent didn't mention the other reso or ask if I wanted to cancel it. I cancelled it as soon as I got off the phone.

I have joined the correct cancellation thread and am monitoring it. I am fortunate that I got most of the ADR's that I wanted, just a couple I wouldn't mind a different day or time so will be keeping an eye. I was just creeping the May ADR cancellation thread to give me some idea of how much people are cancelling and how many days before their trip and there was one on there that had numerous cancellations on the same day. I just don't get it and I find it upsetting.

I book everything online, so didn't even know it was still possible to double book. I don't condone it, but I also don't see it stopping as long as it's possible. People like to have options.

I think the only thing you can do is try and take advantage of all the last minute cancellations. If you can't get your first choice ADR, book a backup and then keep trying for the one you want. Depending on how badly you want it will dictate how often you check. But even if you don't want to be compulsively checking, it's easy enough to check the week before, day before or even day of to see if there is an opening. If there are as many cancellations going on as you suspect, you should have a good chance at snagging last minute.

Yes thank you. I agree. We booked our trip in November last year last minute and ended up getting all of the resos we wanted, including BOG. I did check compusively like a crazy person though.

I just don't understand the idea of having so many reservations. You don't need 5 different options for breakfast on the same day, that is ridiculous. Although, that being said, I am not a spur of the moment kinda person, I'm the obsessed with planning type, so really maybe I shouldn't judge. I just don't get it is all.

Upset cause you couldn't get what you wanted? What makes you think people have ten different reservations for one night anyways?

No, I actually was fortunate to get the ADRS that I wanted. I am keeping an eye though, hoping to switch one of them to a different day, although it's not a big deal if I can't. I know a lot of new resos will become available, they always do. I just saw in the May ADR someone cancelling a handful of resos on the same day like 6 per day. I'm just trying to understand the logic behind people doing this is all and wondering why Disney even allows it.

Did you use the same name and phone number as you have on MDE? I called last year to make reservations at two different parks for New Year's Eve and the CM wouldn't do it for me because I already had one. The reason I wanted to have two reservations is because we were supposed to go with friends to Epcot so I made reservations there but there was a chance they were not going to go and I would have rather watched the fireworks from DHS. I ended up adjusting the Epcot reservation since there were no DHS reservations available when they backed out.

I think very few people take the time to actually do this since they'd need to use different information for some of them.

I think the online system 'most of the time' prohibits people from booking within 1.5 hours of another reservation. It always gives me the warning and forces me to cancel one before I can book a new one if they conflict. Only once did it not pull the prompt up.

I really don't think it's a global problem like it used to be.

Yes, I used the same name that was on my MDE. I had actually mentioned that I had wanted to cancel that reservation too, but then forgot to do it while on the phone with the agent. Maybe that's why they let me do it? I'm not sure. I guess it depends on which agent you get maybe. In your case, I would understand why you would want the other option and to have the two reservations, but I just don't understand the 6 resos on the same day. That is a little over kill and unnecessary.

:confused3 not sure why this has your skirt all ruffled :confused3

you have NO IDEA how many people are in that person's group or what the circumstances are. They could be posting for 4 families instead of your theory.

This is a case of keep your eyes on your own paper please :teacher:

I considered that possibility. Perhaps you are right. I just think it happens far too often to be the case.

Okay, I'll raise my hand and say, "Guilty"! Right now I have 14 ADRs; in the end, I'll only be using 6 of them. However, I'll cancel them at some point and someone else will grab them and everyone will be happy.

I did it using only one account, one ID. I do have dinners booked for the same night, but 1.5 hours apart so the system let me do that.

We're going in August. At this point, my AK ad DHS days are up in the air, so I have meals double booked until I decide which park we'll be in. I want breakfast at Boma on AK day; my kids want to try Yak & Yeti for dinner, so I've booked both and will cancel one at some point.

I have 'Ohana on our arrival night, but not sure if that's going to be the best day for us after being up to catch a 6:30 flight that morning. So I also have it booked (on the same night as another ADR) for later in the week. As we get closer and make final decisions, I'll cancel one.

I have an early dinner at DTD on the day we'll be there, but also a later one at Park Fare, because we might leave and do that and then MK at night.

So, yes, I'll admit to not making up my mind 6 months in advance where I want to eat dinner or what our day's plans will be. Yes, maybe I'm being "selfish and greedy" but what I'm doing is well within Disney's rules, or the system would have kicked me out. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to keep options open until closer to the time that we'll actually be doing these meals. And I'll make someone's day when I cancel an 'Ohana dinner a week before and they're able to scoop up that last ADR they were really hoping to get! So open it up now or open it up later, someone is going to use it and be happy.

I have to say in the big scheme of things, I don't think any of this makes me Disney's #1 Criminal Most Wanted! But others may disagree.

They wont let you make 10 reservations. I had a 4:25 and later found a 5:10 and tried to book it and had planned on cancelling the other, but the online system wouldn't let me book the new time unless I cancelled the other first.

I don't think it's as bad as it used to be, but I'm sure plenty of it still goes on.

But you're right, it's just awful behavior. Unfortunately it's very indicitive of the direction we are heading as a society..."screw everyone else as long as I get mine!". You see it everyday, everywhere these days. Also, what's just about as bad is when the people who do it then try to justify/rationalize it with this type of line: "the person who picks up our cancellation at the last minute gets some pixie dust". No, they don't. More likely, it's someone who had to spend tons of hours stalking the site and/or calling the dining line before they finally got the ADR they could have gotten 5.5 months earlier if not for the selfish practices of others.

Now, Disney shares some of the blame for this as well. As I've stated countelss times, I believe the 180-day policy is completely ludicrous and brings about such behavior. If it were less, some may not feel the need to do it because they possibly could have their plans nailed down better. Also, the ability to do it would be diminished since there would theoretically be less availability (and more competition).

Will agree with you here. If Disney is going to force me to plan my dinners 6 months out, sometimes double booking is needed since I have no idea what park I will be at yet. I will admit to booking 4 extras that I know we wont need, that I will cancel , but right now I'm not sure yet which day we will be at that park. We are also going to sea world and universal a couple of days, and not sure when so left some room for switching. I don't have multiples for the same day, just some on days that I already have them so I can change park days. It has already helped me once, as we had no idea the MNSSHP dates when we made ADR's and don't plan on going to MK on a party day because of shortened hours. We had CP booked on a party date and had to move MK to another day, and if I had not booked CP twice, would never have got it later. I don't book a huge amount of extra, but did do 4 of our must-do's, just in case. A Disney trip is not complete without Ohana dinner, CP lunch, and DD would die if she couldn't see Sofia and Doc at H&V. Also double booked Fantasmic dinner package for both HS nights, because lets face it, its September and the chance of rain is high. I figure I will have a good idea of weather the day or 2 before, and then will cancel.

Thank you for coming forward and admitting you are "guilty" of this. Haha. I can understand the need to have 2 reservations on the same day while you decide what you are going to do. As we are not park hoppers I guess it makes it a lot easier for us to plan exactly what we are doing on which day and which restaurant we want to go to. Thank you for helping to explain to me why some people feel the need to do this. Like I said earlier I am not a spur of the moment kinda person and need things planned well in advance. I hope you cancel your unneeded reservations as soon as you finalize your plans.

Yes you definitely can't do that online, but you for sure can over the phone with a dining agent.

yesterday i got on to delete HDDMR because we decided once again to not go to the show on our trip at the end of July. Well, while looking through my list of ADR's, and I'm glad I did, I found some Beaches and Cream ADR's for the beginning of June setup lol. Apprently, I don't think I really did but apparently I must of some how got these ADR's while looking at B&C and seeing how the availability is close to realtime.. like get an ADR for the same day or next day or a week out etc..
