Upset little girl

oh, my little girl who is only 5 years old thought that it was today that we were going to disneyland and was so upset on the way to school - even though we only have 2 more sleeps

I felt so sorry for her, she told me that Mickey would be waiting to give her a cuddle, bless. I told her that he will still be there in 2 days time....dont know whether she believed me or not.


Thursday cannot come soon enough.

they have no concept of time do they,my youngest is also 5 and we arent going until July,but he still constantly asks is it tomorrow ? the day after ? etc etc

We always do the big countdown!
We have a calender with square for each day so, on the day we go I write YIPEE!!!!!!- then each day going backwards from it gets a number - previous day is 1 then 2 etc and every morning we cross off in red pen so they know there are 10 sleeps/9 sleeps/8 sleeps etc - we start at about 30. It stops the "Are we off tomorrow" etc etc but still builds the excitement.

(and at 4 they both knew all their numbers to 30, and months and days of the week - so sneakily educational too!! )

Kids never have a sense of time. They don't have to work
or have a schedule to go by, like many adults do,

A fun way, perhaps, to help children learn a concept of
time is to have something similar to an advent calender,
like the ones used for Christmas. Advent calenders are
more popular in Sweden, since we always have a series
of 24 programs to help children with the countdown to
the day Tomten (Santa) arrives. We celebrate on Christmas
Eve. Ironically, the celebratiion starts with watching a series
of cartoons from Disney. Kalle Anka och vänner (Donald Duck
and his friends)! This is shown every year at 3 pm on Christmas
Eve.

Perhaps a homemade calander with 15 days decorated with Disney
motives would be fun to have. You could create it and give the
calander to your young ones as a gift. I wouldn't have it take longer
than 15 days, if they are very young. I do think this will help them
understand better the concept of time. It'll also be fun for the
children to count down the days left to a trip. And, as the day the
trip arrives, it might be good to help them pack their bag with some
of their favorite things to bring along. Including the kids will make them
feel a part of the excitement, as well as learn a sense of responsibility in
a fun way.

I hope these tips may be helpful for families.

ive now circled thursday on the calender in a sort-of mickey mouse outline so will show her when she comes home from school that it is 2 sleeps to go.

thank goodness for teacher training days!!! as its allowing us to go in the week.
