Upset at problems with Buckley Air Force Base

I'm upset and angry. Some here may know me as leaning conservative but this is neither a conservative or liberal vent. The security at Buckley Air Force Base (BAFB), a space tracking and data processing center that monitors information from spy satellites across the globe, is accusing me of swearing in a phone call to security that I made yesterday. This is 100% untrue. My DH just called me and said that BAFB security said that I can not go on the base. What? I made a call yesterday to ask for a meeting with security to extend my three day visitor pass. They had promised us for the past three weeks that they would indeed extend it. This pass allows me to drop DH off on my way to errands instead of double driving.

My DH works for Raytheon a contractor for BAFB and has for many years. Today they threatened us saying that they will take away my DH's base pass if we don't give up. Essentially threatening DH's job.

I simply do not swear. No, I'm not any better than someone who does. I just don't swear. I told DH to ask to hear the message I left them. I only said I wanted them to call DH and schedule a meeting so he could ask them again to extend my visitor pass if only for a month. I was angry but never swore.

I'm so upset I just don't know what to do. I'm sorry to say all this on DIS but I feel so wrongly strong armed by the military right now. In my anger I want to write about how there is very little security on the base. They just want people to think it is secure. There is a lot of internal disgust with the way things are done there.

Please be gentle with me. I'm really upset with this. I needed to write it down. Thank you for letting me vent.

I'm sorry that you are going through this but I guess I'm confused on why you have to have a meeting to get another visitor pass. Do ya'll not just have a visitor center to get a pass or an extended pass? That's how it's done here anyways.

Contact your congressman's office and ask him/her to intercede on your behalf.

Lovemygoofy: The VCC (Visitor control center) does give out visitor passes. However, they only give out a 3 day pass. We went through Raytheon security to get the paperwork for a longer one so we wouldn't have to stand in line every three days. Everything was fine until they kept putting it off and saying how so and so wasn't there. Then we called and asked for a meeting to gather the paperwork and I said I would show any forms of ID and such. And after waiting 3 weeks, I finally called yesterday and said please call my DH to schedule a meeting.

I'm sorry you are having that problem. At our VCC if you are going to be there a long amt of time you can get a visitor pass for 30 days at a time as long as your pic is on file and you have a sponsor if you aren't a registered military family. I hope you get things figured out quickly.

I know it can be quite frustrating dealing with MP's or security personnel, because they are in a position of authority. My husband can deal with these kinds of people by being very tactful. Maybe your husband can try to find out what you said that offended them, and I would try not to deal with them anymore.

Is the security privatized? If it is privatized you really aren't dealing with military personnel at all.

Most bases visitor's center will give longer passes than three days if you explain why you need it.

Losing driving priviledges happens all the time--DUI's, excessive speeding...etc. It just means you cannot drive on base, and someone else needs too.

Yes, my DH is the sponsor according to BAFB security and Raytheon security. I'm probably overreacting but I was shocked at their accusations. We just thought it would be nice for me to drop him off since I often go that way.

My DH is trying to get them to let him and Raytheon security listen to the message. BAFB security for issuing visitor passes is done by the military. We had to go through them. Now the people at the guard stations who check the passes are privatized. They are actually hired off duty military due to the fact that BAFB is low on military personnel due to the Iraq war.

I know at the Navy Bases here, a contractor can obtain a base sticker for their car. You have to show license, registration, proof of insurance and your contractor id badge or CAC card. Have you checked into that option?

Yes. We actually have the base auto stickers since DH has worked there for years. We started to pursue the visitor pass 3 weeks ago. It is just disheartening when DH has worked so hard for the military via his Raytheon position.

I don't understand why you need the sticker and the visitor pass? Usually a visitor pass in issued in lieu of the sticker.

It sounds like you made someone mad--or they are on a high horse, and that is why they don't want to issue you a pass.

The sticker we have is for our car. If I drive DH there we show his photo badge and my visitor pass and driver's license due to the fact that after I drop him off, I'm all alone on the base.

DH's security office insinuated to us that my call made someone upset and so no more calling.

I just want to add that I am truly sorry if my original post offended anyone. I was so upset and angry when I wrote it.
