I have gotten one in the past and could REALLY use one this trip with no free dining in August. I was just curious if anyone has a theory on this. I know they are random etc. but I guess what I want to know is should I keep trying to call to see if it "randomly" pops up, or should I change the dates I ask about or the hotel

UPDATE, I just got a Disney post card and of course it wasn't anything special just the same old rates, but I decided to call and check rates again anyway, AND GUESS WHAT, I got an upsell rate for the Boardwalk for August!!!!!! Of course I took it. It comes out to be like 40.00 more per night than a moderate. The CM said it happens 1 in 50. I think its happening a lot more now all of the sudden. But I am so excited I can hardly type. The only thing is that is popped up for my 2nd choice dates, I wonder if I try to switch to my 1st choice dates if I will lose the special rate. Well anyway at this point I don't care about the dates I am just so happy to finally have a reservation somewhere and the Boardwalk will be AWESOME!!!

I think if the hotel is not booked up, they might offer you an upsell if you ask, or maybe even if you don't. When I was checking into the AKL last week, I asked about an upgrade and she also mentioned an upsell being available. Since I felt I already spent enough, I didn't even ask about the upsell and just accepted the (free) upgrade!

Well, I am referring to "upsell" as a special offer given to upgrade your hotel stay for just a little more money. For instance years ago I was booking ASMU and was offered POFQ for like $20.00 more per night. I have not seen anyone posting these "upsell" rates for a while, but all of the sudden people seem to be getting them, SO I want in on it.:)

Are upsells possible if you already had a pkg booked with a discount or are they room only?

I've called and called and called for years, I've never got one of these :sad1:
How does this happen? I've called and asked for Poly which is sold out and never asked if I wanted to upgrade to GF :sad2: and when the CM ask if I want to check GF I'm given the same rate you get on-line :sad2:

Thanks in advance for any information :thumbsup2

It's totally random and the CM's have no control over the offers whatsoever......

Edited: I should clarify because I'm sure it's not random on Disney's part. As Chasgoose said below, it's all about what the current caller is cancelling/booking/changing to etc. The system is more than likely to spit the offer out when certain parameters are met. The CM booking is probably just as surprised as the caller.

And just because there is availability showing on WDW's website doesn't mean that there is a lot of availability.....We don't know how many rooms are actually sitting in the system......It may be 2 or it may be 102.

:) When I was booking our Free dining trip on 4/12 for Pop Century, the CM offered me an Upsell. It was for the same package but to Boardwalk, Beach Club, etc. ( I was only half listening LOL) for about $3300+. Still out of my price range but I would have loved for them to offer a Moderate resort Upsell. I might have been able to swing that price.

Upsells are extrememly rare. Disney only offers them if they are having trouble filling up the rooms at certain hotels/room types, If the Poly was sold out, that probably meant the resorts were occupying at pretty high occupancy for your dates so they have no incentive to give you a better rate.

It is much like hotel roulette, the computer spins and sometime you come out a winner. :thumbsup2

For the first time ever (after 30+ WDW trips), I was offered an upsell when I called to book our free dining trip. Our dates are 9/15 - 9/22 at PC. I was offered Coronado Springs for ~ $20/night more. The catch was that it was only available for the first week of September. I am going with two friends from work and the first week of the month is way too busy for us to be gone. Oh well, maybe next time :)!

Congrats on your luck!!

Anyone had any luck with this for a June ressie?
Now I'm wondering if I should call and pester them everyday...

My first choice dates were 8/5-8/19 but nothing popped up so I tried 8/12-8/26 and it worked!!! I wanted a deluxe so I pretended to be looking for a moderate and it worked. No free dining but thats okay. I feel much better about it now that I got a great deal.

:) Darn! I wish they would have offered me Coronado Springs instead. I would have jumped on it!! The Deluxe offer that I did get was just too much out of our budget. :guilty:

:) Does anyone know if something changes and I call back, would they still have a record of the Upsell offer and would we still be able to book it? Thanks! :wizard:

My understanding is that these offers must be accepted or declined in the phone call where they came up. I'm not at ALL sure that a future rep can help you with the offer you've already turned down.

I was told the same thing with our BC/YC upsell. I said no and then changed my mind. I called back and was told that it was gone and could not be got back.
