UPS or USPS or FedEx?

I got the biggest flat-rate box for Priority Mail to send, but my things don't fit, but barely. The items are pretty heavy, including a wooden cutting board, pecans, etc. My question is, since I can't go flat-rate, would it be cheaper to go UPS or FedEX or just mail first class? Thanks!

My brother works for FedEx, and I called him to ask if he got a discount so I could ship him his present. He said even with his discount, USPS is cheaper. Couldn't tell you about UPS, though. I shiped my brothers box Priority with USPS on Saturday, he had it at 2 PM on Monday, that was from the Chicago bubs to the Phoenix burbs.

Could you put it in 2 separate flat rate boxes, or will the cutting board itself not fit? I often mail things out in 2 shipments just because it is usually less expensive to flat rate send something.

I think your cheapest way would be through USPS. There busiest day is this coming Monday, so I would try to mail it out by tomorrow or Friday.

I have to laugh b/c I work at the post office and swear that Fedex is always cheaper than us. But I think it depends on the weight and size of the box.

Good luck!!

If its over 8lbs then send it Flat Rate USPS - I believe its $9.30 for any weight in the flat rate box only. UPS will charge you easy $10-12 for that weight. The only advantage to UPS is that you are insured upto $100 for free. USPS you will need to purchase insurance, but its not that expensive. Hope this helps

Happy Holidays

Try usps.com and then get an idea as you can plug in weight from and to where and it will tell you prices, it is VERY simple. If you need too, stand on a scale then add your items, yeah, ya gotta see how much you weigh (LOL) but you'll be accurate. Any Box can be used to ship any way, P/O will just mark it up for you.
Best of luck
Happy Holidays to ALL!

Thanks for all the info. It's the darn mouse-shaped Martha Stewart cutting board that's making it not fit, but I'll try the website and have my DD11 stand on the scale. :rotfl: I just can't get on that thing so close after Thanksgiving. I turned that into a week affair.

Thanks!

Thanks, I just did the measurements and weight on the USPS website, and it'll be $16 to ship parcel post. Ouch. Could be a lot worse, I suppose. Thanks!!

I haven't used UPS lately, but when I used to sell on ebay on a semi-regular basis, I always did better with UPS than USPS if something had some weight to it (plus it was insured too). You can go on their site and put in your info to see what it would cost you.

I just shipped 2 packages today. I went online and put in the weight of the boxes and calculated shipping on USPS and UPS. UPS was only $.70 more and since the line at the P.O. was really long, it made more sense to take it to the UPS store, plus I prefer UPS because my packages seem to arrive faster.

You can also do a shipping-cost estimate on the UPS website. I imagine FedEx has a similar thing, but I've never used. I always check the difference between UPS and USPS and usually USPS wins, but not always.

For speedy, inexpensive shipping, USPS Priority is usually cheapest. I use FedEx ground if I need real tracking (for expensive items sold on ebay etc.)
