Do they usually leave packages or wait for a delivery signature.

OHHHHHH!!!! I want this package delivered TODAY - and IM NOT HOME! :guilty:

PLLLLLEEEEEASE keep your fingers crossed for me.... my cute lil' bathing suits are on their way to my house...hope they leave them!!! :thumbsup2

My UPS guy usually just leaves the packages on my front steps.

UPS and FedEx leave packages if the sender doesnt require a signature...the only time they wont leave it other than that is if they think its an "unsafe" location...ie if you live in an urban area and the only place to leave it is on the front step which is inches from a busy sidewalk etc.

Also, if you leave the house, just leave a signed note authorizing the driver to leave the package just in case.

They usually leave mine, but the one poster is correct, if the company you ordered from doesn't allow it, then they won't, but hopefully they will leave you a note that they have it and when or if they will attempt re-delivery.

If it's a neighborhood where many packages get taken, they may not leave it either. Also, if it's not there when expected or there's no note, look around your house too. Sometimes they will look for safer places to leave it.

Cool! Hide & Go Seek with my bathing suits! :thumbsup2

I hope he/she just leaves it - Im in a single family home on a quiet residential street - we should be good. **phew**

Thanks all of you for your answers.

I didnt know it was coming today - as of last night it wasnt even "in transit" yet - then all of a sudden this morning, all this info was there! I would have LEFT a note!!!

My UPS guy always leaves my packages. Although if I'm expecting something and know I won't be home I'll leave a note asking them to leave the package. Just in case.

The catalog company I worked for, customers would call asking about their orders. If the tracking website said delivered (we didn't require signatures), but they couldn't find it we would ask them to take a few moments and look around. About 25% of the time, it was by a garage door (the customer would just miss it), stuck inside a screen door on the side of the house, etc. The other times it was stated as delivered, but was still on a truck somewhere; stolen; or delivered to a neighbor (matter of fact, due to the property my parents live on, they can't get deliveries to their door, so there's a neighbor across the street who accepts them on their behalf-they live in the country.)

It really does vary! Some companies have specific policies with UPS. Most will leave a package unless they feel it's not a secure place to leave it. When you order something you can leave specific instructions - leave at door, inside door, leave only with signature, inside garage, etc., etc.

I live in a small town, in a fairly upscale subdivision and they usually just leave the package by the door, but once I actually found the package in my house. The deliveryman just walked in the house and left it in the entryway. No knock, no doorbell, nothing! And we were at home! I couldn't believe it.

Good luck!!! Hope it comes in time.

Where I used to live, they would just leave it.

Now where I live, they leave a slip. Even if I am home. They don't even bother ringing my buzzer half the time. It is very annoying. I usually then have to redirect it to be delivered at work.

I used to work for UPS. Started out washing trucks in the evening while I was in college. Then drove a delivery truck for 5 years.

Like others have said, each package is different. Each location is different.

Some shippers will say "Authorized Signature Required". This means it HAS to be signed for in person. You cannot leave the UPS driver a note to have him leave it. Unless he has left you a slip beforehand.

A driver should never leave a package at an apartment.

As for leaving packages at homes. UPS states that the package must be hidden from view from the road and out of the weather. Not all drivers follow this to the T. Most will leave it on the porch, or under a welcome mat, or behind a planter - or something to that effect. If the package is fairly large, the driver might carry it around to the back door, if possible.

Hope that helps.

Hope your bathing suits are waiting for you when you get home!

Last month we were waiting for a delivery that did not need a signature, I was home and on the front porch when the truck drove right past our house, stopping up the street. DH calls an hour later and asks where I went :confused3 I told him I was home the entire time. He told me it showed online that delivery was attempted but no one was there to sign. So DH calls them and it turns out the guy went to the wrong house. When they called me back they tried to change the story twice as to why it wasn't delivered and then wanted me to drive out to them after 7 pm that night when he unloaded his truck (about a 20 mile round-trip). Finally when the driver changed the story for a third time they told him to just come back and deliver it to us.

Funny thing was the item was defective and a new one had to be re-delivered the next week. The guy found our house the first time then and didn't wait for the un-needed signature that time, he just left in on our front porch.

My sister currently works for UPS and like pozey said some companies that have UPS contracts do require signatures (like Dell for example). I think with bathing suits you will be just fine with them leaving them for you.

One thing that always cracks my sister up is that people get angry with UPS when they don't leave a package because it requires a signature and they can't just leave it there. So remember if you are expecting something to be delivered that will need a signature either be home, call and have it delivered to your place of work, or have it delivered to a nieghbor who will be home. Also if you have a dog(s) in the yard and they do not seem friendly the are not required to deliver your package either. These drivers are on a timed schedule and many of them work very long hours each day.
