I have never received a pin. We REALLY want to go in December!! But unless we get some sort of discount, we probably won't. Is there really any way to increase your chances of getting a pin?? Or is it completely random?

It is completely random, but make sure you are registerd at Disney's website. Check the box to receive emails from them (that's how the typically send PINs). Then, go in and price some vacation options for Nov/Dec at various resorts & dates. Save a few of the offers (no money needed ;)) and wait it out a few days/weeks. Many people get a PIN after doing this, and playing with the saved trips a bit.

Also, just be on the lookout for any discounts to come out for Dec. As long as you aren't going the 2 weeks around Christmas, you should be able to get a deal!

I received a pin code yesterday,my first ever. After reading the posts from others I decided to try some of the suggestions myself.I already had an account on disney.com from last years visit.I started pricing out vacations for AUG2010 and saving them in my profile.I really think that saving the vacation info helped because the email stated "glad to hear your planning to visit in August". Again not sure if thats why but it didnt hurt either. Good Luck :thumbsup2

OP - you are aproaching this the wrong way. You would 'hope' to get a PIN or discount and then by the time you get one, you'll over pay for flights (if you drive then this doesn't apply).

You should budget for a disney vacation without PINs or CODEs. If DDP is too much, then budget your meals. Same goes for the type of resort. If a deluxe is too much, then go for a mod, or a value.

Decide on the dates, look at travel options (flights, diriving, etc) and make your reservations.

Then if a PIN or public code comes out, call in right away and apply it to your res. You will either SAVE money, or you can use it towards upgrading your vacation (ie if you reserved a mod, now go for a deluxe - if you get FD, then apply your meal budget towards a better view or souvenirgs)

That's a great way of looking at it. I always book my trip the same time each year, no matter what. Then if something comes along, and I can apply it to my ressie, all the better.

I love the tons of postings when people say they cannot go unless they have free dining - plan the trip first and if you get it the discount later, all the better.

We COULD go without the code. But since having the free dining last year, I would want a discount to justify going again this year. I would have made my reservations by now, but I am afraid that it would make me less likely to get a code. I would definitely book by 6 months out, so I can make my ADRs. We fly Jetblue, and they only book 6 months out anyway.

I have done everything and never gotten a code, I save the vacation dates on the disney website, I just answered their survey about our recent trip, I sign up to get all their info, I enter all their contests, I send for the trip planning dvds, but PIN?? zilch, zip, zero, nada, NOTHING, ever never. We go with or without the pin but one day it would be nice to get it. With the economy I am hoping that we get free dining again in december and then I will cash in all our airline miles towards a package so that should help with the cost. The only thing I ever get from Disney, is to buy something on photopass, the disney insider and the movie rewards stuff.
