So my poor dog has an Upper Resp Infection. She started sneezing last week, took her to the vet, he diagnosed allergies.
By Sat, afternoon she was weezing, shaking, coughing and 103.3 temp. I called the vet and we started on antibiotics.
Monday morning we went back to the vet, she now has a 105 fever, got an antibiotic shot to go along with the oral antibiotics.
She is not eating, has dropped alot of weight. I have been forcefeeding her, she has not eaten a full meal since Sat morning

None of my other dogs are sick and she has not been anywhere so we dont know where it would come from.

Any ideas? Everything ive read on upper resp. infections they get from other dogs.

She is also UTD on all shots, and we are going back to the vet tomorrow

Well, we are going through the same thing, exactly. We took her back in this afternoon. The vet tried some things and is going to keep her overnight and let us know in the morning. Her heart is enlarged and she can't breath. Last week the initial diagnosis was bronchitis. She really went down hill from last night into this afternoon. She does not eat and my wife has to force her to take her pills. She does drink. I expect in the morning we will be going to the vets to say good bye.

The first thing that I thought of is pneumonia...I did an internet search too and pulled a link for you (there were many I was looking for one that wasn't advertising any thing for sale related to it) has the Vet ruled it out?

Please update after the appt. personally I wouldn't force the food at this point but try to at least get water in. Best Wishes,

Art, I'm so sorry. I have a feeling we will be doing the same shortly. She is only 2 1/2 so its even harder for us that she was a healthy 130 lb dog last week.
Luv, thanks For the link. I think that may be what she has :(

I'm so sorry.

This happened to a beloved dog of mine when she was 10. She was hospitalized, had IV antibiotics and fluids, and eventually went into renal failure. They said dialysis wasn't really an option for dogs and she was going into respiratory failure as well. It was terrible. They did everything but she still didn't survive. :sad1:

I hope your dog fares better, maybe since she's younger.

We went through something similar with my Minky was 10wks old. Just a baby. He started off with some sneezing and a little cough. One day DD-then 7yo said "Minky is as warm as a teddy bear!" Yike. His temp was 106! I immediately rushed him to the afterhours emergency vet clinic where they immediately started IVs. They dind't give me any hope of him making it through the night.

But he did. Minky spent about a week in intensive care with round-the-clock nursing, IVs, and antibiotics. Cost me a fortune, but I didn't care. Minky had bacterial pneumonia. He was septic. As a result of this illness, his lungs were permanently scarred. He has COPD, which has limited his activity all his life. But somehow he has made it to the age of 10. I can only pray that your doggy makes it tonight and begins to turn it around quickly. I know how scared you must be.

Thank you. Good luck to you. Mine is a 9 yr old beagle who was in excellent health until a week or so ago. Started off with a terrible cough. I think the vet should have let her go tonight buy my wife wanted to keep trying. She went down hill very very fast.

We went back to the vet and it is pneumonia. He took bloodwork and is starting her on injectable antibiotics. He is keeping her at the office and will monitor how she reacts to the injectable, if that does not work he will immediately start IV antibiotics. She is not currently dehydrated, but if she does get that way he will start fluids.

Fortunately, my vet lives right behind his office so he is able to monitor her in the evening and at night.

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I held my breath when I saw you post...I feel confident for your dog of course will continue to pray...what's the dogs name? Thinking of you too Art1

Her name is Carrie and this is a picture of her from May

Well I believe in the healing power of prayer and especially to St Francis of Assissi so I will print out Carrie's picture and put her with my prayer card of St Francis  if its any consolation I empathize with you we have lost some over the years and we have had some pull through dire circumstances over the years

Well, we had to let Little Girl go this morning. She didn't do well overnight and it was time. She had heart and lung issues. We will sure miss her and it's very hard. She was a beagle. My wife is having her ashes returned to us. It's amazing how fast she went down hill, she was acting like a puppy last week. We still have Lucky, our male beagle.

It's really something how our pets become part of the family. :sad1:

I'm so very very sorry for your loss  I'm glad you have Lucky, you know the poor guy will be grieving too.

Art, I am so sorry for your loss. We always have the ashes returned. We have 4 trees in our back yard planted over our 4 dogs ashes.

Niki, I hope Carrie is doing better.

New Update...
DD and I just left the vets office and Carrie is no longer running fever!! Her liver enzymes were slightly elevated, but my vet did not seem to worried about that. We will recheck when she is over the pnemonia. :dogdance:
She is spending the night at the vets, but if she continues improving she could possibly come home tomorrow evening!!
