Upgrading

I am sure this has been asked before but is it not all that unusual for a party to be upgraded at AKL? We are staying in concierge for 3 nights this February and I was wondering, do I ask for an upgrade? Do they look at you funny for such a request or is this common practice?

7 days and counting. Thanks for any advice or comments on previous experiences.

If you're staying concierge, there really is nowhere for you to be upgraded to. The only place would be a one bedroom suite, but since there are so few the chances would be nil for a free upgrade. We're going to be at AKL concierge in 9 days and I already asked about upgrading to a one bedroom suite. I was told it's an additional $155 per night.
