Upgrading Unused Hopper Passes to MYW passes

I purchased two park hopper passes last fall, from Hotwire. They were for 4 days plus 1 plus, for $209.

Since we have a 9 day trip planned for this December, I'd like to know if upgrading/crediting the dollar amount of my pass to a new one is a good idea.

If I am crediting the dollar amount of an unused pass, do I need to make it same for same (ie, with hopping, plusses and no expiraration)? Or can I just change it into a 10 day expiring pass with hopping?

It makes a difference to me, since a 10 day no expiration, magic plus ticket will be $410. I paid $209, so it will cost me $200. Since I can buy an expiring 10 day passs with hopping for $237, it might make more sense for me to just buy a new pass from a ticket broker, and save my old, unused hopper pass.

My other question, is, can I sell my 2 unused passes on EBAY? Since they've never been used, I figure it might work to sell them, to help pay for the new passes. I wasn't sure of this.

There were alot of questions flying around about this after MYW was orginally announced, but I never heard what really was allowed to happen.

It may cost you more than $200 to upgrade. You dont get a credit for the amount you paid hotwire for the ticket. You get a credit for the amount hotwire payed Disney for the ticket.

The last I was told, if the old hopper pass was totaly unused, you may trade it in for an MYW pass with or without any combination of attributes you want.

The worst strategy is to use the old 4 day pass as-is and also buy a 5 day MYW pass for the rest of your vacation.

Buying a new pass for this entire vacation and saving the old pass for a future 4 day vacation is actually high up on the desirable strategies.

If I remember correctly, 4 days and one plus was not a standard ticket but rather a promotional or special ticket of some sort. Disney had many kinds of promotional tickets in the past. Yours might not be eligible for trade up at all. Ask the trade up value at Guest Relations before doing any trade up, stepping out of line to think about it if necessary before doing it. Hint: Figure out your ticket budget for all new tickets, then decide in advance on a minimum trade up value below which you save the old tickets and buy all new tickets.

Make sure you understand the difference between "upgrading" and "dollar credit". Not all the info on the above site will apply to your situation - you need to be sure the section(s) you are reading are for "upgrading", since your ticket is unused.

Seashore is correct, if you have unused tics, they can be upgraded to tics of any combination, as long as the days are equal or more to what you have. Just because you may have previously purchased a 5 day PH, that of course was non expiring, doesn't mean you can instead have the 5 day one park pass with expiration.

However, if you have tics that are used, then the amount left it credited toward the new tics, and then they must have the same entitlements, ie Park Hopper, non expiring, and if it was originally a plus ticket and any of the plusses have been used, then the MPP option.

I know that it is really confusing. Take your tickets to any of the Guest Relations offices at Disney parks or Downtown Disney and they will help you figure out your best options!
