Upgrading to concierge when staying elsewhere with points

We've just booked the Grand Californian at Disney Land in June/July for 4 nights with points. We're interested in upgrading to concierge but aren't sure if that's even possible. Has anyone done this before and if so was it done through MS or through the hotel directly? If it was done through MS, was it with points or cash? I always seem to come up with these great ideas (and questions) when MS is closed! :)

Thanks!!

Upgrades to Concierge are done on an "as available" basis at check-in and will be on a cash basis. You can indicate your preference as a request, but it will be only applied at check in. Good luck!

I tried last month at CR and was unsuccessful due to availabilty, as Doc said.

Thanks for the info. I just called GC and had them add the request to me reservation. I'm really bummed, though. I can't understand why we can't pay the difference in cash and be upgraded now. I like to have everything in place and know exactly what we're getting before we get there!!: :(

Just wondering...what are the extras when you upgrade to the concierge level? We are going to the GC next month and it'd be nice to know what is available.

Let me see if I'm understanding this correctly. You're staying in a standard room on points, you want to pay the difference between and standard rack rate and concierge in order to get a concierge room. Right? They won't let you do this until check in? Right? And that's only if they have an unsold concierge room.

I'm new at this, but I think it's because they'll get more money if they sell that room for cash. I don't think they get the rack room rates from DVC.

Now, have I totally confused everybody?

No, Olaf, you're making it perfectly clear and that is the only reason I could come up with, too.

Sorcerer's Apprentice -- Concierge at GC offers a continental breakfast every morning (which I've heard is pretty extensive); free bottled water and soft drinks when the lounge is open; wine & hors d'oeuvres in the afternoon; there's a large balcony off of the lounge to watch the fireworks; concierge check-in area -- and there's more. It sounds wonderful!

Just have to keep our fingers crossed!

Thanks, BetsyB. I'm going to put in a request my self. I'll let you know how it goes!
