Hi everyone :cool1: ~ I will most like convert some SWA points to AirTran A+ Rewards credits and book my flight from Orlando to Indy for my November trip. Does anyone know if you can upgrade to business class at check-in on AirTran if you booked your flight using A+ Rewards? I am a bad overpacker :sad2:, so I know that I will have 2 checked bags. The upgrade fee will only be a few $$ more than the checked bag fee (that I will not have to pay if I fly business class), so I think I'll "splurge" if I can :goodvibes.

if you have more than 4 Airtran A+ rewards then you can upgrade to business class for free when you checkin. If not you can upgrade for $49 or less. Now that is if business class seats are available. I have been flying Airtran for 5 years and business class upgrades have always been available when we wanted them.

Thanks everyone :). I should have plenty of A+ rewards, so as long as seats are available, I may just upgrade at check in.

It is not $49 or less. The price varies on the distance of the flight. Cost would be $49, $69, $99, or $129. See this link for more information.

Sorry, but for 5 years ALL domestic flight upgrades to business class for myself being an A+ rewards member has been $49 or less. One exception was a flight to Cancun was $49 but coming back to the US was $69.

DH & I have been A+ members for well over 10 years and fly a LOT. It totally depends on the mileage, for us to upgrade on a flight from CAK to MCO (which we do every year) is either 4 credits or $69.

Not according to AirTran's website. They state:

http://www.airtran.com/faq/q/do_you...=Inflight+Service&rt=index_travelers_overview

Business Class upgrades are available, from just $49 to $129 for our very affordable full coach fare (Y class) or from $98 to $258 on connecting flights. They are not available for use with discounted fares. Please visit our Business Class page for full details on upgrades.

We flew in December from Buffalo to MCO and it was $69 to upgrade (non-stop flight).

I upgraded my DH and I last fall BWI to MCO and it was not on a full fare ticket. I think it was $99 each. Maybe $69.

Edited: I did our upgrade in advance, not at the airport.

Well then I guess I am WRONG.... Even the time I got two upgrades to business class for a total of $19.
Whatever is printed on their site is always right and they NEVER do deals especially for their A+ rewards members. My apologies.

It isn't necessarily deals for A+ rewards members. If you are updating at the airport, you may get a lower rate than if you update online when you check in at home. If there are still business class seats available and the flight has a crowded coach cabin, it is better for Airtran to sell the business class seats at a lower rate and then use the coach seats that open up as a result for other coash passengers.

I have always had to pay $69 from Milwaukee to Orlando (and I'm an A+ rewards member) if I pay cash.

One note: if you are using A+ rewards to upgrade, you don't have to wait until 24 hours before the flight to upgrade. You can call at midnight the day before your flight and upgrade over the phone. Example: my flight is on Tuesday morning at 8 am. I don't have to wait until Monday morning at 8 am to upgrade. I can stay up Sunday night and at midnight, call to use my A+ rewards to upgrade. This is what I usually do for DH and me.

It completely depends on the distance, and expense of the flight to begin with. $49 upgrades are usually for shorter flights.

I just upgraded this week from ROC to BWI....a one hour flight...for $43 (credit of 6 bucks for the seat reservation already purchased.)

When travelling from ATL to San Diego ....a four hour flight before they stopped flying there..... it was $99 (minus $6 paid already).
