Upgrading to AP

I have a couple questions. I need expert help!

I think this trip my bf and I are finally going to upgrade to Premium APs. We go enough! This trip we'll have 3 day hoppers. I know to wait and use our EE, then upgrade. But my question is regarding the price. We usually get our hoppers through AAA, which is discounted to maybe $159. I know the retail price is what, $179? So when we go to upgrade will they charge from the retail price? I'm guessing yes, because how would they know how much we paid?

My second question. Are there any other perks we'll immediately get? I know with Premium we'll get 10% off food, merchandise (right?) so it would make sense to upgrade right after EE so we could enjoy those benefits immediately. I saw someone mention that they got a 20% off merchandise coupon for renewing their AP (I know, a little different); any chance we'll get that?

You get the food discount with any AP now, not just premium. I use my deluxe for it all the time. Also, when you upgrade, you will get the value of what you paid! Your ticket will have a value printed on the back side, that is how much they will apply towards your AP, not retail value. I wish it worked that way!!!

My friend works for a travel agency in Anaheim Hills and can get the Premium APs for $50 off. Let me know if you are interested. He has already done it for a couple of the board members.
