Upgrading to AP Question

My wife has been talking about wanting an AP for a while now and I wanted to get her 1 for her birthday.

Well it doesn't make sense to give an AP and not go to the parks! But it's President's Day weekend and it's blacked out. So I bought 2 day passes for us and was looking to upgrade while we are there.

Obviously I will have to wait until Sunday after we enter to upgrade. My question is, can I take care of it midday, or will it prevent us from reentering the park? If it does I'll have to wait until we're ready to leave to take care of it. What time do the ticket booths normally close?

You should be able to upgrade them any time that day and get an exception pass for re-entry even though you would otherwise be blocked out. Just make it clear to the ticket booth CM that that is your plan for the day, so they can stop you from upgrading too soon if any sort of new policy I'm not aware of has been implemented that would prevent you from re-entering.

We did it in Dec & they issued as a blackout exception for the day. Even attached the MP we'd bought (admittedly after much confusion on the CMs part but a supervisor took care of it). We upgraded late morning to take advantage of AP discounts starting at lunch. Don't do that, what a time suck! We got a newbie CM and it took absolutely forever because upgrading to an AP is a very convoluted process for them. If I ever did it again I'd do it in the evening.

There should be at least one ticket booth open for about an hour after park closing. And agree with the pp about allowing plenty of time for the transaction. If you get a seasoned CM, it can go quickly. But if you get a new CM, the whole process can take a while (be patient -- it's not easy for them and stress makes it worse!).
