Upgrading to AP-Do I have this correct?

I plan on upgrading our tickets to seasonal passes on our last day, we will be there during a seasonal pass blackout time, but plan to return later in the year when those passes are not blacked out. Will I be able to do this? The above poster makes me think we won't be able to.

I think the key is to do so at the very end of the day...your re-entrance to the park or trying to ride the Hogwart's Express would be compromised with shining new Seasonal Passes that are blocked.

That's definitely what the key seems to be.

We return a week later, and I figure I should once again ask at the RPR desk and see if the answer has changed. No, same story, except this time, I'm told it would just be a no charge to upgrade, but she nicely advised me that I shouldn't do it until we've completed our visit to the Studios, because we'd be blocked out due to concerts.
SO, two of our party enter the Studios and try to upgrade at GS, and are told, nope, can't do it due to Seasonal blackout. The GS computer won't even let them be issued (is what I was told) as we are in the "restricted" park. I am, however, able to upgrade the other two of our party not visiting that day. No charge.
At the end of the day, we go over to IoA, enter, and are then able to upgrade the last 2...and receive a refund of around $30 (for one adult, one child) Again, huh??
Anyway, it was a but of a runaround, and just goes to show that you can get a different answer every day, so if you don't like an answer, keep trying ;)

Thanks for taking the time to post your experience. Based on your report, I'm thinking my plan to upgrade to seasonal on our last day/ mardi gras concert night while in Universal Studios may not work as I will not be able to run over to IOA after the concert to do the upgrade. Looks like I will stick to my original plan of upgrading to a power pass inside the parks my first day. Still saving some money over the regular AP cost because I will hopefully get the free bonus days as a credit.

As a bonus, my AMEX did post a $30 statement credit offer for tickets bought with an american express on UT website. My husband and I both have Amex cards so I will do this 2x and just about cover the cost of upgrading to the AP.

I'll post when I return about upgrading the 2 Day +2 bonus day ticket. I think in my case, I am going to go with the 2+2 tix instead of the 2 +1 tix that is widely been confirmed as getting 3 days credit on upgrade bc it's $8 cheaper to buy upfront on the UT site right now and there is a chance they may not even ask to see the AP when I check in. Worst case, as long as I upgrade inside the park, I will still get 2 days credit at current Universal prices which still saves me $ bc UT tickets cost less.

Happy travels to all!

Will you tell me more about the AMEX discount with UT? Do you need to have a certain kind of AMEX?

hijack questions. . purchased tickets for upcoming trip in June. I want to upgrade to the Preferred AP on Sunday night before we enter the parks Monday, as of now it's around +$40 difference. Can I do this at GS in Citywalk? Or must I do this inside a park?

Also once I have the AP in hand, can I book another reservation (say a come back trip in September) at the hotel front desk using the AP discount?

We upgraded 2 undercover tourist tickets today. I bought 2 day, 1 day free day tickets.
Today is our first day in park. There was no charge to upgrade to seasonal pass no money was offered back, the cm said you got this at a little discount and that is ok. He also asked this is your first day to use.
I needed the AP today to pick up Blue Man group tickets for tonight at AP rate. Plus to show to hotel for discount.

So, if I buy a 5 day park to park pass, then at some point upgrade to Seasonal AP, I will get the difference in my ticket price returned or charged. Then, I am able to use my AP within 12 months. If I go in August, I can go any time before next August. Do I have that right?

If I buy a 2 plus 2 free day ticket, universal with credit me as if I bought 4 days? Surely not?

If you upgrade from tickets to an AP, whatever credit you get for them will be applied to the cost of the ap you choose

Do not know what ap prices will be in August

AP rates aren't up for September yet.

You should be able to upgrade your ticket at any guest services.
