Upgrading to AP and PhotoPass

I am thinking of upgrading to an annual pass on our trip in Aug. I have 7 day PH passes I bought through UT at the old prices earlier this year. We always get the photopass but with the price increases and for the discounts, I was thinking it may be better for at least one ticket to be upgraded.

If I wait, don't buy the photopass and upgrade when we get there, is it instantly activated? I wouldn't want to assume and then not be able to take advantage of that perk on some or all of the trip.

I am also hoping it will get my husband to take another trip sooner or Finally agree to buy into DVC. A girl can dream.

If you get an AP, you pictures for the 12 months prior to activation can be downloaded, so don't worry about it.

It's my understanding that you have access to all of the benefits of being a passholder (including memory maker) as soon as the AP is activated. We are picking up our APs in July and I removed MM from our vacation package for this very reason.

Really?! So would I get access again to our spring break photos? We became passholders in May and will pick up/activate in July. I can't access our spring break photos anymore, but I'd download a few more for sure if these will pop back up once we activate the APs.

Yes. They start aging off, but are available for 13 months after they are taken.

In our example, we buy APs every other year. Our last APs (before our current set) expired in 2015. We did not buy MM or APs for our trips in January or April of 2016. When we got our AP in January of this year, the pictures from those two trips were still available for download. But they are both older than 13 months now, so are gone. We can continue to use this feature for our upcoming trips in September and January. Thousands of pictures for our entire extended family over about 10 total trips among us. Everyone's pictures in your friends and family is included.

We did tickets through a Costco package last year and had bought MM through Disney. Then we decided to upgrade to APs while there. Disney refunded the cost for MM (I had to call MM number once we got home) and all our photos from the trip (even taken before the upgrade) are on my account with their 1 year expiration dates. Yup. We bought our APs in and all our photos from Christmas reappeared.

Got our AP in December (after they announced this) and all our pictures from January before on showed up.
