Upgrading to Annual Passes

I finally decided to just go ahead and call Disney to see exactly how much dollar credit I would get. The CM I spoke with on the regular number said it would be what I paid for it and it would start the day I got the AP. I said I didn't think that sounded correct since I had already used some of it and she gave me the number to the Guest Relations at Downtown Disney. He said I wouldn't know for sure unless I came into GR. I said, "there's no way I could figure it out?" He said well basically it would be the AP minus what you paid for your MYW and it would start the day you first used your MYW in May. So two different answers from two different CMs, both of which are different from what I've read here, which I might add makes the most sense.

The first CM did say that I could buy a child AP and use it for all the perks except room discounts. I don't know if that is true or not. I was thinking maybe if the room discounts aren't that great. I may just get a child's AP for my soon to be 3 year old and just use the 6 days we have left and get the rest of us APs at a later time, if i can used the child one for parking, DDE, and other discounts.

Regarding the value of the ticket - they won't EVER tell you that over the phone. I'm surprised they even told you you'd get "what you paid". They've gotten pretty stringent with giving that information over the phone.

Your admission, if I'm remembering correctly, is partially used. So when you apply the value of your partially used admission towards an Annual Pass - the pass will be activated on the DAY you complete that transaction. It would ONLY be backdated if the first time you used your ticket was within the past 14 days.

I'll buy you an annual pass if I'm wrong! ;)

I know the part about the room discounts is true, and I believe the rest would be true. Up until they instituted the Best Rate Program, a child's pass could be used to get the room discount.

The following link explains the whole process in detail, including ways to figure out how much dollar credit you'll get for partially-used passes:

Read through it, that page is just full of answers to every single question posed in this thread, and has been painstakingly researched by the AllEars team for 100% accuracy.

Im not trying to be difficult but I really think this is true. Since you already used part of your MYW ticket. I had this happen with the play three day pass
which is really the same kind of ticket. I bought the play three day pass in May and then I upgraded it in July to the annual. They gave me what I paid for the pass toward my annual pass which is great!! But my start date is the date I bought the original pass. I really do hope Im wrong and the previous poster is correct I really do but I just want you to have a heads up and atleast if I am wrong you will be pleasently surprised!!! :sunny:

There are different upgrade rules for the Florida resident "Play for" passes . Read the info on upgrading / dollar credit from the link that WillCad posted - you will see the exception for the "Play for" passes.

The OP does not have a "Play for" pass - "Play for" passes are not the same as MYW tickets. Without the non-expiration feature, MYW tickets expire 14 days from the first use. Play for tickets (without the non-expiration feature) are valid for up to 6 months from first use.

Best wishes -

Oh I see her ticket expires within 14 days?? oh ok that is different our pass expired after 6 months. :)

Dan asked me to check in on this thread. Dan and WillCad have offered the correct information in their posts. The link that Will posted above does have the best explanation of the system that I have seen online.

I answered a question very much like the OP's a few days ago in http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=925627

Thank you everyone for your replies. I still can't get my head around what would be best for us, using our MYW tickets to get APs or just using them up this time and waiting until next trip to get APs. I guess it would help if we knew if we were definatley planning more trips. Either way I need to buy my 3 year old some kind of ticket. Oh my head hurts. Sometimes I think it might be better to be uninformed.

If you're not sure, I would just use the tickets as they are, and get your APs next time. This way, you have NO out of pocket admission expense for this trip, and you'd get more time to make your decision.

Well for us, we used to buy the play 4 passes (florida resident), then at the end of the summer, upgrade to seasonals. But you only had till October to do the upgrade. But if you still had unused days, they didn't expire.
This year, back in July we were thinking of upgrading our seasonals to annuals to enjoy the parks (since we were on black out). We thought the rate would be prorated, but it's not.
They take the original purchase price, $200. Deduct it from the price of the Annual, $300. But it would still expire in December when we bought the seasonal pass.
