I am not sure if I have posted in the correct place. But we have a package with 6 day MYW tickets. april 5-10 We are going again in january . I am thinking upgrading to a annual pass. The cost to upgrade would only be $19 each for 2 tickets which would also give us hopping privilages. Then in jan. I would just purchase my sons ticket seperate. We do alot of shopping at disneyworld . What I was wondering is do all the store offer a 10% discount with annual pass. Also what about the disney outlets in malls do they offer the discount? Then how does the annual pass work on time wise? Would it go from the fist day of use april 5th or the last day of use of april 10th for next year for validation date use? Hope this makes sense.
When we go in january 2nd would be our arrival day, will the christmas decorations still be up?

For $19 each, it seems like an easy decision - but is that really right?

An 6 day MYW costs $239 (adult) + add hopping ($50), adding water parks ($50), adding NE ($82) = that's $421 for the most expensive 6 day ticket, I think.

An AP costs $499 without the water parks, $638 with the water parks.

So I'm not sure your math is right, unless I missed something about your original tickets. Seems like it's about $70/per person to upgrade to APs for you.

And BTW: I don't find the AP discounts in the stores or restaurants to be any great deal - you don't get them everywhere, it's a limited selection of places - seems like anytime I ask in the parks, I get a "no"! I think more of the places seem to be in DTD. There are sometimes AP discounts on rooms, though, that can be a good deal.

hmmmmm. I was just looking at a similar situation for our family. I think your math is definately off.
MYW 6 day ticket is: $239.00
An annual pass is: $499.49
To upgrade one ticket would be $260 per ticket! Even if you add park hopping to your original 6 day ticket ($50) it is still a over a $200 difference. Maybe I am figuring it wrong? :confused3

You are correct, as you can see by the calculations I did above where I figured out the price of the most expensive 6 day ticket vs. an AP.

if you have a MYW with water park and fun, you can only upgrade to the premium annual pass. Unfortunatly you can't downgrad your MYW to eliminate the WP&F if you've already paid for it, even if you haven't used it yet.

Dh and I love having an AP, although we don't have one right now. We were going to renew in Dec, but weren't going again until June, so we decided to use our tickets from the 4/3 deal to upgrade and it will cost about $250+.

I have gotten some great discounts with mine. I try to save my souvenier shopping to do at World of Disney at DTD so I can get the 10% discount. We have used it at the Virgin Megastore. We got a discount on the Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot. The room savings have been tremendous. We were able to get 4 trips out of 1 AP. The savings of not having to buy tickets every trip was really wonderful. I am sure we saved in the thousands.

We also got the Tables in Wonderland card that saves 20% at Table Service restaurants and a few Counter Service restaurants (be sure to ask everywhere you go). My discounts with it have more than paid for the $65 it cost me. If you like to use the dining plan, you can still get the AP discount on your room and add the dining plan without having to buy any extra tickets, like you did in the past. When we ewnt on our trip in Dec 2008, we ate at Planet Hollywood and we were able to use the vouchers that came with our package for $15 as well as my ToW discount, making the meal much more affordable, well combined, Dh's meal was almost free

I am very sorry that I don't have them for our last minute trip next weekend, I could have gotten a better room discount. Without them we wouldn't have been able to go as many times as we have.

If the OP is talking about FL Resident tickets, then the 6 day pass ($210) can be upgraded to a Seasonal pass ($239) for $29... pretty close to the $19 mentioned.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade.

When you upgrade, the year would start from the date of first use and be good for a total of 366 days... if first use is April 5, 2009, they're good through April 5, 2010.

As for Christmas decorations... I am pretty sure they'd still be up January 2nd... don't they keep them up the first week of Jan? Maybe someone else can verify.

The annual pass is good for one year past the first day of use.

I'd also recommend getting the Tables in Wonderland card, previously the Disney Dining Experience. It provides you a 20% food and beverage discount on Disney-owned dining.

I was figuring if I used the annual pass in january 2010 and this trip in april and utilized some of the discounts it would save me money . From what i understand on the annual pass you can park hop which may be needed this easter trip in april. We would do more than 6 days in january as we would be taking our handicapped son who can only stand several hours a day in the parks so we go more days.

Right - you are figure 2 trips in a one-year span. I have already figured the same thing. We are going Dec 2009 and Oct 2010, and I will upgrade to AP before the end of the first trip. As you say, cost of a non-hopping tickets is basically a wash, and you get hopping thrown in. We don't need water parks on it, as we have 4 WP&M options left on our (Non-expired) ticket from last year.

I don't know about the store discounts, but I can answer one question, if you have a 6-day ticket that starts on April 5th, 2009 and you upgrade to an AP on April 10th, your AP will expire on April 4th, 2010 the following year, 1 year from the date the ticket started being used, NOT one year from the upgrade.

Good luck!

Ah, I get it now...you are comparing getting two 6-day MYW base tickets against an AP...Yes, that's about $19 more. But as you say, you get full park hopping (so you save $31 right there assuming you only got it for one trip). And there are all sorts of other discounts (of course they are subject to change between now and when you want to use them :) ), but you'd have to evaluate them to see if they are worth it. Shopping wise the options are somewhat limited - World Of Disney at DTD is the biggest thing of note, and that is 10%, which I think Disney VISA holders also get.

Some other things that might help make it worth it:

- The aforementioned Tables In Wonderland card. If you enjoy table service meals, this could be worth it. It costs $75, and gets you 20% off most (not all) table service meals, and a few counter service. The AP alone does get you some discounts, but they are usually smaller and limited.

- Room discounts - you can never be sure when or if they will be available, but you can decent room discounts if you are flexible.
