Upgrading Tickets

Not sure if this is where I should post. I just purchased tickets through AAA. They are 4 day hopper passes. We may take the kids to a water park one or two days. Am I able to upgrade to Hopper Plus passes while I'm at MK? Do you know how much extra it would cost per ticket to upgrade?

Thanks.

There is no easy answer to that question anymore. :confused3

You can always trade in your ticket for another one at WDW. Disney tickets just went to a whole new configuration in January but some AAA's are still selling the old style PH's and PHP's. I'm not sure from your post which one you have.

If they are the new Magic Your Way tickets, then you would pay $45 plus tax to add three options onto that ticket. You can't add just one.

If they are the old PH tickets, you would have to upgrade them. If done within 7 days of the first use, they will apply the entire amount you paid for the old ticket towards the purchase of the new one. If done after the 7 day window has passed, you'll get a prorated credit based on the number on unused park days remaining. That credit would be subtracted from the price of the new MYW tickets.

Disney does not sell PH's and PHP's to the general public anymore. So you'd have to upgrade it to a MYW ticket. 4 day MYW Premium ticket (includes hopping and plus options) runs $282.23 adult/$242.82 child. That ticket would expire 14 days after first use. If you want it to be a non expiring ticket, you're looking at $298.20/$258.80.

You can do this transaction at any Guest Relations location. There are two at the MK. One is outside the turnstiles on the right hand side. The other is inside the park in City Hall.

Are you sure?

She could use three of the four days on the old pass and then trade it in for full dollar value towards a new pass if this were true!

I suggest this rough guideline to help decide whether to trade up an old pass as opposed to keep it:

Figure the dollar per day trade up value of the old pass (you won't be able to until you get to WDW and have a ticket agent scan the ticket).

Figure out the dollar per day price of the new ticket you want to buy, including all the attributes the old ticket has, non-expiration, etc.

If the first dollar per day number is bigger, then trading up is a reasonable deal.

Do not use an old pass as-is during a vacation for which a new pass of fewer than ten days is bought and used also. Save the old pass instead.

I just purchased these two days ago from AAA. I would hate to think I was purchasing them there to save money and finding out I have to pay a lot more to upgrade them for the plus option. I didn't realize AAA didn't offer the MWY Plus package.

I'm so confused by all of this.

Thanks for the help though.

"She could use three of the four days on the old pass and then trade it in for full dollar value towards a new pass if this were true!"

Yes, she could do that and still receive full dollar credit, but those days would be credited against the new ticket. So, she would, in fact upgrade within 7 days get full dollar credit, but when she gets the upgraded ticket it would only have 1 park day and the 2 or 3 Magic Plus options. It isn't like she is getting free days. She will just pay the difference between what she originally paid and what the new ticket would cost.

Correct. Any usage is deducted from the new ticket. If the upgrade is to an AP/PAP, the expiration is back dated to the first day of use of the old ticket.

Yes, she could do that and still receive full dollar credit, but those [used] days would be credited against the new ticket...
You mean to say, debited against the new ticket, no?

(going off on a tangential journey into imagination) Hmm...
I had a 4 day pass and just used 3 days. I select a 7 day pass to trade up to. Let's say the old pass cost me $206. and the new pass costs $212 incl. tax. So I pay six dollars and receive a pass with four days, it originally had seven and three were docked. Doesn't seem right but maybe... Heck I should'a gone for the ten day pass for $223., the difference is seventeen dollars and I end up with a pass that has 7 days left on it!
