Upgrading tickets on dining plan

I am taking my DD and one of her friends to WDW in Sept. and am getting the free dining. I would like to get the 10 day MYW+no expiration tickets for DD and me but I only want to get a 3 day ticket for the friend. From what I understand, everyone in the party has to have the same tickets to get the package. Can I upgrade only 2 of the tickets to 10 days after I get there, or will they require me to upgrade all of the tickets if I upgrade any of them?

I called with this question and was told yes, it is not required for all of the people in the party to upgrade tickets after you arrive.
