I have a somewhat complicated trip and I am not a WDW newbie, but I am also not a regular! And things keep changing! I have tried to piece together information on here and WDW website, but I want to verify a few things.
First trip- My DD15 is leaving tomorrow with family friends to Orlando. Their son is going to be playing in a baseball tournament at ESPN so they don't really know their schedule and have not been able to plan much, even really deciding how many days they will go to parks. Today they committed to 2 days plus a water park day at WDW, 1 day at Universal. I am going to buy the tickets for my daughter and theirs for WDW (2 Day PH+) and the tickets for all 5 of them for Universal. (They are out of town this week on a mission trip, get back in the middle of the night and leave in the morning for Orlando).
Second trip- Here's where it gets complicated: I am taking my four kids, including DD15 above to WDW in August for 10 nights in a split stay. Because of this, I would like to upgrade DD15's ticket to an AP. I realize I can not buy her an AP since I will not be with her in June, so I am asking the mom she is going with to do the upgrade on the 2day PH+ ticket I will be sending with her. I am also planning to buy myself an AP because I did the math and it'll be worth it for us with the room and dining discounts. My DS19 can only stay 3 of the nights and then must fly back to move in to college (hence the split stay). The other 2 kids will get regular PH+ tickets.
I can either buy my DD15 tickets online from WDW and Universal or Undercover tourist and do the e-option OR I can go to AAA and have tickets in my hand for them. I am most likely going to do the AAA option.
AAA assures me that these tickets will be good for all of them right at the gate and I can link my DD15's to her magic band today. I am also assuming that her friend's mom will not have trouble upgrading DD15 ticket to AP?? And if I buy them all the 1 day Universal PH ticket and they decide they want another day, can they upgrade the Universal tickets to more days?
Next, I really want our August tickets in hand so I can make FP reservations, so I would like to either buy them from WDW/undercover tourist today, or buy them from AAA while I am there today getting the others. But I do not know how many days DD19 will actually be able to go. We travel Tues Aug 8, and will probably get there around supper time. We could conceivably go to Epcot (we will be staying at yacht club so that won't be too hard) that evening and it's open late so we would have at least a few hours. Then he will have all day Wed and Th. However he will only have Fri morning since I think I will need to get him on a 4pm flight. Since I can upgrade once there, I was first thinking of only getting a 2 day and upgrading to 3 or 4 if we were able to use that. But now I am realizing that I probably can't make FP reservations for those other days if I do that. And if we do go Tues night or Fri morning, we will surely need to make use of FP!!! Since we will be at YC, I don't know if we would rather do the pool one of those times.
So what should I do so that I can make the best use of being able to make FP reservations at 60 days, but not spend too much money on park days that don't get used?
DS19- buy a 2, 3, or 4 day? Go ahead and add PH or wait and see?
DD15- buy the 2 day PH+ that she will definitely use with friends and pray they succeed in upgrading it for me?
me- buy a 9 or 10 day ticket and upgrade once there?
DS20, DD13- buy a 8, 9 or 10 day PH+ If we go Tues night and every other day, that will be 10 days. But we are planning to do at least one water park, so perhaps we need to buy it for one less day??
