Upgrading stateroom

I feel really stupid, so beat with me if this is obvious and I’ve just missed it. We are sailing concierge level for the first time on the Fantasy in April, been PIF for a while now, and since my husband and I are both celebrating our 40th birthdays on this cruise we have decided we want to go one step up and upgrade from the standard concierge to the one bedroom. I read online you could easily upgrade via the website (I’ve done it before but wanted to see if you still could), even seeing in their FAQ section how to do it, but I’m not seeing it when I go to my reservation. I’m not sure if it’s because we’re concierge, PIF, a new Covid thing or what, but the wait to talk to someone on the phone is 2 hours and I can’t (we have a band concert in 1 hour), so I thought I’d ask everyone here since y’all know everything and I’m an idiot. I’ve upgraded a stateroom before, but that was a while back, non-concierge, before we had PIF, and obviously pre-Covid so I’m just sitting here being confused 🤔. Any help is appreciated, pretty sure I’ll have to come home and sit on the phone for the rest of the day….but oh well.

You have never been able to modify a Concierge room assignment online, in the same category or as an upgrade. That's one of the disadvantages of Concierge bookings.

Are you calling the Concierge specific number or the general DCL line ? The number for Shoreside Concierge is 1-866-784-1654. However, they are not opened on weekends. You might be able to talk to someone without such a long wait time, but I'm not sure they can change stateroom assignments.

I've had this issue before when booking concierge. You have to call someone to change your stateroom. Probably because they want to verbally reiterate to people that the concierge cancellation policies still apply even if they switch to a non-concierge stateroom.

Set an alarm and call DCL tomorrow the minute that their phone lines open. You will not have a long wait to talk to a representative. I've done that repeatedly even during the heaviest phone periods for DCL (new releases, mass cancellations, etc.), and it has always worked. The key is to set an alarm and be ready to call them the minute that the lines open, not 10 or 15 minutes after the lines open.

That was my fear, that was because it was concierge I would have to call (I hate talking on the phone). I know shoreside concierge can’t do it because they told me a few months ago they can do everything but upgrade rooms “we can do a lot of things, but changing rooms in reservations takes a different bag of pixie dust”. I’ll be fine, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing an obvious click link before I sat on the phone and caused myself needless anxiety lol. This whole concierge thing is all new to me.

oh I totally get it, it’s a lot of money and different rules they want to make sure people understand! I wish it wasn’t the case for people who already have concierge who want to just change within concierge, but it is what it is. We were just going to wait and upgrade at the port, but my husband is antsy and called me while running errands and did the whole “just in case, let’s just go ahead and do it, I don’t want to. It’s out!” There are like 5 or 6 open, I don’t think there will be that many people upgrading that high in the next two months, but you never know. I’m just thankful the phones don’t open that early on the weekend.

Of course I was a glutton for punishment yesterday and sat on hold for an hour (better than the original hold time) when I got home from my daughters concert. Got the room changed, got the confirmation email, but the stateroom number still isn't changed in my account when I pull up the app or website, it still shows us in the original room. When I pull up the "plan a cruise" and act like I'm looking to book our original stateroom shows as available and our new stateroom now shows and unavailable, so I know it's changed, so how long does that take to change? I guess maybe because I did it on a weekend it's not updated yet? I am learning new things every day lol

We did an upgrade to a 1-bedroom the day before our cruise on Jan 31. The cruise is still showing up today (2 days after debarkation) in the DCL app with the original (not updated) room number. It did update on the website, though. Enjoy the upgrade, we certainly did. The only problem being is that I don't know if I can give up the extra space, second bathroom, and small dining table for future cruises.

As long as they let me in the right room I’ll be ok lol. I told my husband this would be our problem, I won’t be able to go back to a regular stateroom! He said “maybe we’ll have to start getting used to it…just not as frequently”. He was happy we didn’t have to pay as much for the room as it’s listed on the website, I think that’s all he’s really happy about 😂 (and that now he doesn’t have to share a bathroom with me AND both of our daughters)
