Upgrading Regular AP to Premium AP?

Has anyone upgraded their regular AP to the new Premium AP special? We arrive on April 30th and I want to upgrade my AP I activated in January to the new premium AP. I know this is the last day I can do this, and we arrive around 6:30PM, so I only have a limited amount of time to get it done. I was hoping someone here has done this so I can prepare for any possible hassle I might encounter. We are thinking of heading to MK that evening to get it done since they are open late. I renewed my AP in January, of course the announcement of the new promotion came weeks later. Since our group is planning on doing the water parks twice, it seems logically to upgrade. I paid $419 to renew, but the current renewal price is $435. The regular AP sells for $516, so if I can get this done, does anyone know which figure they will compute the price on? And is that price pro-rated by how much more time I have left on my AP (Jan 2015). Either way, I still save $$. Thanks for any help!

I may be wrong but when we were there in February they told me I could only do the upgrade if my pass hadn't been activated. Once it's been activated it's a done deal.

I know the last time we had this promotion we were able to upgrade our APs to the premium one as long as the price we paid was less. Since we paid the renewal price it was lower. Hoping that someone here has done this already. I know it can only be done in person.

I did this for 3 regular DVC AP's during the $399 premium AP sale last time. I had zero problems upgrading them at DHS, but did have to pay the full upgrade price - no prorating.

I upgraded 4 regular tickets this past week to the new premium DVC AP's at Disney and had very mixed results with the ticket CM's at various guest relations. Some were very helpful and some were downright nasty and did not want to help upgrade my tickets. I got so many different prices when trying to upgrade that I had to go to several guest relations before someone would upgrade the tickets for the correct prices. Just move to a different guest relations if you get a CM that is less than helpful or tells you that your tickets can't be upgraded. The next CM that you encounter will probably be much more knowledgeable and helpful!

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately for me is that we arrive on the last day of the promotion so I hope I can get a knowledgeable cm.

I just called MS today to try and do this--they said the only way to take advantage of the PAP was to buy another one that had to be activated by Jan 31 2015. We went in January on AP and are going in July and wanted to add the water parks. The CM I talked to was unsure, put me on hold, and came back and said it could not be done. :( BOOOOOOO! Sorry I didn't have better news for you, I am disappointed too!

That's too bad. How ever in the past you always had to do the upgrades in person at guest relations. I find the info that MS gives isn't always accurate. I will give it a shot on our arrival day. It doesn't hurt to ask. I've done this before with similar promotions successfully. I'll post back my success or failure. My pass doesn't expire until January 25, 2015 and we are skipping our January 2015 trip. I do appreciate you posting your info....thanks!

I called twice on this issue, and after a long wait both time was confirmed that you can upgrade at the guest relation in person, not over the phone. Going to wdw in couple days will update after that.

I look forward to your update. We leave 3 weeks from today.

Just an update. We arrived today. The last day of the promotion I went over to Epcot and went to guest relations. I had no problem upgrading my renewed regular ap to the dvc premium ap. I paid 416 for my renewed ap in January but only had to pay the difference between the current ap price and the promotion dvc price. Glad I got it done. We are planning 2 water park visits this trip so this was a savings.

I was JUST wondering this exact same thing today!! Maybe you can help me then...I have AP vouchers (not renewals) that I purchased for $424 back in June. We are going to be in Disney and activating our passes on Sunday May 4th, which is when the PAP deal has been extended to. So if we activate our passes and then go to a ticket window to upgrade to the PAP, how does that work? You paid the difference in the current RENEWAL price and the PAP promo, not the difference in the renewal price you actually paid in January right? Hope this is not too confusing!

Having done this last year, no they did NOT bring your AP up to "gate" You pay the difference between what you paid and the current price. One reason I didn't look into converting my current PAP to the Premier was the fact that they charged the difference between the $399 and the $846 and it still expires at the normal time. Not worth it :) (I did get a Premier voucher for use later this year, another adventure!)

Just a note when I upgraded to the promotional dvc ap on April 30 the price was calculated on the gate price of my regular renewed ap, not the lower price I paid

Then you benefited from the CMs mistake.
