Everyone needs to be present. They will take a photo for each person. And it is not like a 60 second process. Expect it to take 15+ minutes. At least it did for us when we did this in July. :)

No. Everyone doesn't have to be present AT the ticket booth. The photo happens after you do the upgrade...you will have to go through the turnstiles again once they print out the AP cards, and have your photos taken again.

I wouldn't recommend leaving the rest of your party IN the parks without their tickets, but they can certainly hang out in Downtown Disney while you wait in the ticket line and do the actual upgrade (which does take some time).

When I've done this I've had to have everyone present and had to wait for family to bring my 2 small kids over. I'd say expect it to take 30 minutes and if it's less than great!

I did this in July as well. We went to the ticket booth and I handled everything. My family was nearby, but nobody asked to see them. I really don't think they needed to be there. When we went into the parks the first time with AP's, they took our pictures, even though they had already taken our picture with the PH. My experience was the same as DLgal, not the same as Hydroguy. I'm not sure why the experiences would be different. I wonder if it makes a difference if you upgrade before you enter the parks the first time or if you upgrade after you have used your PH. We had used our PH. We were on day 3 of 4.

ETA: Definitely allow some time. Not a super fast process.

I think this is one of those "it depends" answers, and what it probably depends on is what the particular CM you get has decided is procedure as far as he or she is concerned. I have upgraded lower level to higher level APs for my whole family at the ticket booth on two occasions. One time the CM was insistent on seeing everyone in my party, looking at my DH's driver license, asking my sons their names, and so on and so on. The other time with a different CM, we were all present at the window, but she asked no questions, barely looked at any of us, asked for my ID but not my husband's, processed everything, and shoved the passes out the window. Interestingly though, each experience took about twenty minutes.

Just chiming in with another experience where everyone had to be present to upgrade. I had to wait for my spouse and child to come over from DTD.

I was told everyone had to be there too. I don't remember a specific reason but when I asked if I could do it without them, I was told no. That was in January last year.

I would take everyone, just to be safe. We upgraded on our way back to the parks after an afternoon break. There was no line at the ticket booth.

My experience everyone needs to present as you are required to sign a receipt agreeing to Disneyland Terms and Conditions of owning an Annual Pass.

June, 2016 - everyone had to be present. The CM said that it was to prove (we upgraded on our last day) that nobody had left for good and therefore expired their tickets, but the parks were still open so I don't know how that mattered.

I signed on behalf of my kids and husband when I purchased our annual passes as well as the last two times I renewed them. They were not with me either time. My husband was literally at work.

I'm really surprised. They have let me renew my nieces when she wasn't there, but when we were actually upgrading from a parkhopper, we had to have the kids there to do it.
