Upgrading Park Hoppers that were purchased at Charity Auction

We bought 4 one-day Park Hoppers at a charity Auction that had been donated to the cause by Disney. We paid almost full price for them. We figured that since we were going to spend the money anyway why not have it go toward this great cause? Now, we have to fly from Seattle to visit DLR plus we are diehard fans and so there is no way we are going to be able to get by with single day tickets. I knew that PH's could be upgraded and so I figured we'd just upgrade while at the parks.

I just looked at the PH's and it says "complimentary" on the back of them - I assume because they were donated. It's suddenly dawned on me that maybe they won't give us the full value toward multi day hoppers! :scared1:

If not this could end up costing us a LOT of money! We have the receipt from the auction showing how much we paid for them and so we're going to bring that. I know this is a super random situation but does anyone have any insight as to what will likely happen here? I will push very hard to be able to upgrade to 2 or 3 day hoppers.

I'm pretty sure I've read several times that complimentary tickets have zero value towards upgrades. :(

There's even a situation where non-complimentary tickets cost you money...there are some military tickets where you pay more for them than the stated value on them, so you have to make up for that difference, and then the difference between the AP and the stated value.

Sorry you're in this situation.

Gosh darn it, I was already taking one for the team b/c it would have been cheaper for us to do City Passes (we're going to San Diego, too this time.) But I figured it was worth it for the good cause.

We leave TOMORROW. I'm working on a spreadsheet right now to figure out how to lose the least amount of money. I think I've got it down to *only* $100.

Last time I'll make this mistake.

I really appreciate your quick response - it's helping make some quick decisions - like a Costco run for city passes for the kids before we leave. sigh.

Unfortunately the tickets don't have a value, they are a tax write off for Disney so they make these donations. I'm sorry your plan won't work, I hope you have a great time anyway! :)

First off you made a donation to a charity and that is all that matters is your gift and the reason you gave, to help those less fortunate than yourself.
Read the story of the old lady an the two mites where God was so pleased with the old lady who gave all she had. I want that tote bag or CD when I donate but each month freely donate without expecting anything. Savor the thought that you helped a good cause.

Second you can write the amount of the donation as a tax write off and do check with a tax expert on the proper amount to write off.
