Upgrading non-MYW tickets question

We bought 2 Adult and 1 Child 5-day Park Hopper Tickets in 2004 before the change to MYW tickets. After we bought them, a special package deal came out with some length of stay tickets attached to the package, so we opted for that and never used the other tickets.
This summer we are planning a trip to WDW and would like to stay longer than 5 days plus use the water parks.
My question is: Can we upgrade the Park Hopper tickets to MYW Premium tickets for 10 days? They are all completely unused.
According to ALLEARSNET.COM, this could be done only if they were completely used (which they are). However, I called WDW and after getting transferred 4 times and hung up on once(during a transfer), I talked to someone who stated this could not be done at all. I have no idea if this was a ticket specialist or if it was another less informed cast member. Any insight or feed back would be apprecated.

If you have unused pre-MYW tickets you can use the original Disney selling price of one ticket as a credit to the purchase price of any current ticket with a selling price equal to or higher than the value of the old ticket.

Note that if the ticket was purchased from a discounter/broker the value given is what Disney sold the ticket for to the discounter/broker and not what you paid for it.

If you have a partically used pre-MYW ticket it cannot be upgraded, but the remaining entitlements can be used. If the ticket has become demagetized, as long as the serial number string is readable a replacement ticket, with the same remaining entitlements, can be issued.

Any MYW ticket that is unused can be upgraded. Any MYW ticket that has been partially used can be upgraded as long as it is within 14 days of first use, even if all the entitlements have been used up. (If you had bought a four day, used all four, and decided that you wanted another day you would only have to pay the price difference between a four-day and five-day ticket (plus tax).)

No matter how much you paid for a MYW ticket, if you are upgrading it you will only pay the difference between the current gate price of the old ticket and the current gate price of the upgraded ticket. If it was purchase with any discount, Disney will absorb the differencee in price between what it was originally sold for and the current gate price.

Final thing, is for any upgrades or applying of ticket value to a new ticket, only one old ticket may be applied to one new ticket.

Thank you very much for your response. My only next question is: I know this can only be done at Guest relations at the parks, will the CMs there know this policy or will I have problems exchanging them? BTW, I am in no way bashing CMs, I have been to WDW a few times and had nothing but wonderful experiences mostly because of great CMs. I just don't want to be standing at the gate expecting to pay around $200 a piece for an upgrade and end up having to pay $400 for new tickets because the CM may not be familiar with a policy.

It can be done at any Park (including water parks and TTC) ticket window or Guest Relations Office. It is a basic part of the training for anyone working the Automated Ticketing System terminals.
